Raul Ibanez will most likely be headed to his first All Star Game and Chase Utley will likely be headed to his fourth. With the All Star voting ending on Thursday, it appears that Ibanez and Utley will be playing in the mid-summer classic.
Ibanez leads all outfielders with 2,970,139 votes. Utley leads all second baseman and is second among all National League players in total votes with 3,510,082.
Other Phillies are going to need a lot of help within the next four days:
- First Base: Ryan Howard remains second behind Albert Pujols. Howard trails by about 2 million votes.
- Third Base: Pedro Feliz remains fourth, almost a million votes behind leader David Wright.
- Shortstop: Last week, Jimmy Rollins fell to second, but it was still a close race. Hanley Ramirez extended his lead to 254,000 votes.
- Catcher: Carlos Ruiz fell out of the top five.
- Outfield: Shane Victorino remains in fifth place and Jayson Werth remains in ninth place.

How much say does Charlie really have in choosing reserves? I’d imagine Ryan Howard gets chosen but there really isn’t anyone else on the team whose omission from the All-Star roster would be some major slight.

I’d take Howard as a reserve/DH

Albert…The games in St. Louis, i think they play with NL rules, no DH, Pitcher bats.

I say Howard gets picked up, and I honestly think that Ruiz has an outside shot. Pedro is hurt by the fact that there are to many better 3rd basement out there.

Amanda says~ “..Other Phillies are going to need a lot of help within the next four days.”
Boy, its that an understatement. ;-)
I’m fine with Utley and Ibanez in the starting lineup. After all, we want the best team out there representing the NL. Remember, the league winner gets home field advantage in the World Series.

I think Prince Fielder is having a better season than Howard…so I expect him to be the reserve over our big guy (as much as I hate the fat vegetarian)… Maybe they can take all 3 (Pujols, Howard, Fielder)?

Frankly, I’m a bit relieved to see Jimmy fall out of the lead at SS. It just wouldn’t be right to have him on the All-Star team this year.

The Phillies have to learn that if they want more players in the All Star game they cannot take June off. Losing and not playing well does not translate into votes. If they can get a good homestand going against the Mets and Reds then you might see some of them move up.

I am so happy Rauuuuuuuuuuuul is going to the All Star Game. Thank you Phillie Nation, Ruben Amaro, Pat Gillick, and everyone else for voting in a class act who never got the respect he deserved when he was with the Mariners. Go Mariners and Phillies. Go get the Bravos and Mets this week.

I still dont understand why J-Roll is 2nd. with how poorly hes been hitting this season he shouldnt be in the top 3. As for wanting the best team on the field to get home field. On the outside shot of us making again, I dont think we want home field. For the Phillies this year it is BY FAR home field DISadvantage. I see the Phillies playing at home, I mark it as a loss anymore. They are horrible at home. But maybe Charlie will have another meeting, or maybe the last meeting worked. I am getting tired of hearing the amount of “records” the Phillies are demolishing this year, i.e most amount of Home Runs given up by defending WC’s, worst home record by Defending WC’s, worst interleague record by defending WC’s, the list goes on. They need to win more than 2 in a row. They have the lineup, they have the ability, they HAD the heart. They lost the heart, and it is killing them.
