In what way exactly are they in season threatening trouble? Last I checked, they are still in 1st place in the NL East. All this swoon has done is eliminate our lead, but we’re still right there.

The Phils need to stand strong and not make any rash moves. The Phils need to give better run support when the pitchings good and take the licks when it’s bad like last night. It would be nice to see Bastardo make another positive start though it’s clear he needs more minor league seasoning.

Amaro will be as aggressive as anyone trying to make a trade and in the mean time that final slot in the rotation has to be a make do game because the Phils should be padding the win column in the other games. The Phils will make a trade for someone, doesn’t look like a big name will be readily available so get prepared for a rental as insurance with upside or maybe something a little more creative like a Zach Duke. The Phils aren’t going to chance their arm with prospects who aren’t ready, it’s no real baring on them and as for Savery’s as likely to have a future in this league as any.

We just have to hope the Phils don’t over-react, last nights game was one of those we just got beat. The focus needs to be on guys already on the roster playing more consistently because no pitching addition is going to cover up bad play elsewhere. I’m not going to criticise guys like Rollins and Werth expecting them to star from here-out but some consistent positive play is needed.

As for Bastardo, maybe hurting his shoulder is a good chance to send him back down to continue to work on his game with the added experience. He’s still a very decent prospect who I’m sure is going to big important to the Phils either in the future or to manoeuvre a good trade.

Savery is not a big part of the future rotation MikeB. We are talking a 4 or 5 starter. There is no reason to bring up Drabek. He’s still developing, and he has the most potential of any pitcher in our system. There is simply too much to lose and not enough to gain by bringing him up. I think Carpenter and Kendrick are options, especially if the injury isn’t too serious. If it is, I think it’s time to bring up Carrasco. The kid needs to prove he’s ready. He has progressed rather slowly through the minors, even if he’s still young. It’s time. Let’s see what he has.

I’d put money on either Carpenter or Savery. They won’t rush Drabek and Carrasco has been wildly inconsistent (4 starts in June, 2 quality, 1 stinker, 1 superstinker). Other than his one appearence in the Majors, Carpenter hasn’t thrown a single game as bad as Carrasco’s two bad June games all season. Savery has pitched well, and a couple good MLB starts would make him a real trade chip. Possibly an outside chance we’ll see Worley.

maybe they shouldnt have had bastardo throw 102, 107 and 108 pitches in his first 4 starts. He threw 38 against Boston in 1 IP but there was a big rain delay or they would have kept him out there.

im sure drabek can smell his first mlb start…but is he ready? i knwo he is doing great in the minors….but your talking about a phillies team that is in a huge slump right now…i dont even think nolan ryan in his primecould get a W these days for the phils…..i sure hope they break out of this not hittin funk they are all in

Will we see Kyle Kendrick in Bastardo’s place until we get a new pitcher? I would bring up Carrasco, but if he struggles he’d lose a lot of trade value…and he might be the top prospect that could land us a big starter further down the road.

THERE ISN’T A TRADE MOVE TO MAKE RIGHT NOW!

When are the fans going to realize this? No team is going to give up a premier starting pitcher this early in the season. Maybe around the end of July, but not right now.

For now, they have to patch things up with what they have in the minors.

Finally,
For Ruben to make a trade move.
When Myers went out, he faced the decision to immediately trade, or bring up prospects and gamble. He gambled, and it doesn’t look like it is paying off in the near future. At least we know Bastardo isn’t ready right now.
Ruben needs to make a move to get another ace to counter Cole. With Blanton looking solid, a third pitcher would take a lot of relief off our pen, and give our offense an easier chance to win games.

The problem with Drabek is that they absolutely will not rush this kid. He’s their gem, and they’re going to protect him until he’s absolutely ready.

This might finally be a situation where you see Carrasco up here. I mean, why the hell not. He’s gotten his shit together as of late and it’ll be a chance to see what this kid’s made of.

In other news, the Phillies pulled off an unbelievable magic trick tonight that you guys should check out at the site.

I give up. I don’t know if this can be done, roster-wise, but let’s bring up all the kids for 2 weeks. I don’t think Drabek, Savery, and Taylor will be ruined even if it doesn’t work, but really, for 2 weeks, why not?
