Here’s a neat tidbit: Antonio Bastardo was nominated for National League Player of the Week. Ian Stewart of the Rockies won the award, but that Bastardo was nominated in his very first week of major league play says something (which is why I posted the item).
My post-second-start take: He needs to get that changeup working better, but for now, he’s done a fantastic job and should stay aboard.

The best thing about the situation is that Bastardo has shown in 2 starts he has a future in the bigs, he’s definitely got the stuff.

Tim, you hit it on the nail concerning Bastardo’s need of using the changeup more. It is supposedly his best pitch to go with the fastball. I’m sure Dubee will be working him between starts to instill confidence in using his off speed pitch.

Bastardo solid in his first two starts. His next start is at home against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday at 7:05pm. It’s the second game of the 3 game series and he takes on Daisuke Matsuzaka (1-4, 7.33era)

as i said before, the economic use of the changeup so far is undoubtedly intentional and it’s the right way to go. why should he start showing his out-pitch on a regular basis when he’s winning games with his fastball and his supplemental breaking ball? save the changeup until hitters are getting wiser to his fastball. and it’s going to be a hard fastball to get wise to.

Mets lead 2009 season series 3-1. Mets won 2-1 in Philly and Mets won 2-0 at NY.
*These pitching stats favour the Mets. But these stats are from the past. The only thing that stops Phillies from a sweep i think is Santana. But I think we’ll be surprised by the phillies against santana on tuesday. Go Phillies!!!

Antonio is gonna be a solid MLB pitcher…just like JA is.
I think its time to send off KK in a trade…he’s not a solid MLB pitcher..
and when Worley and Drabek are still waiting to get called up, you gotta like what you see.
dont forget, Cole used his fastball a lot when he first came up, then after a while started using that nasty change.
I see the same from Bastardo.
LEts see how he does at home in a hitters park…
nice for him that he goes up against Dice-K who throws about 100 pitches per 5 innings

I think Bastardo had two good starts and I agree he will be a solid MLB pitcher.
You are right it is time to send off KK in a trade.

I definately saw him throw a quality change up or two last night . Once he gets more consistant with it, he’s going to be dangerous! So far, I have been very impressed with him in the show!

Travis – I do not know what to expect; the games we won in LA were the ones I expected to lose going into it and the ones we won I expected to lose. The Mets are a different team – in a way (minus their center fielder) more humbled. We shall see what happens. I am ready.

Hate to sound like a narcissist, but can I get some love for being the one who first suggested Bastardo’s Bastards to PhilliesNation? Please? Like the kid, love his Pedro-esque competitive heart. You can see he’s never happy when he leaves the mound, and thrilled to move the runners up and get a sac bunt.
