People LOVE to bring up last yr with Taguchi how the 25th man doesn’t mean a thing, it took a perfect season from Lidge and nearly perfect from Madson coupled with a debacle from the Mets’ pen for us to make the playoffs. I don’t think we can count on the same thing happening twice. Everyone needs to contribute, even the 25th man.

But you are all right. The front office never makes mistakes. Eaton was a teriffic signning. Park may win the Cy Young. Duncan will sign and will play in the big leagues for us. I mean I am just amazed with how consistent our front office is in making decisions.

As far as Bako goes, whatever. The team obviously saw it as a bench upgrade, or they have something planned. Believe it or not, they know more about running a baseball team than you do.

This is a great time to make the move. We have two huge series coming up that we would like to have a healthy, confident closer for AND we gave Lidge time to try to correct it and he didn’t so now make the move.

Let’s not all jump on the “Bridge to Madson County” too quick though. We hear all the time (specifically from Wheels haha) that pitching the 9th is a totally different animal and I really believe it is true. I have faith that Madson’s stuff will get him through it, however.

why not call up Drabek to stand around in the bullpen?? .. you know, as long as we aren’t worried about our prospects getting regular playing time in the minors

Given the options.. THEY feel that Coste is a nice option as a RH-bat.. better than Cairo, Cervanek, Ozuna, ..and Mayberry.. who at 25 years old, and with only 3 games of experience in the Majors.. is still considered a prospect. Coste is much less likely to K, and still gives some pop from the Right side… and Given the options, I’d rather have him at the plate with the game on the line than any of the other guys you mentioned.

My posts defending moves that the team makes is not because they make the greatest moves ever.. its that i see the bigger picture and realize that it was what THEY felt was the best move.

Lou Marson is still developing his game, and working on things.. which is why they got rid of Jason Jaramillo.. so that Marson could play everyday. because a guy gets better by playing baseball.. not by watching baseball. .. that’s the same reason why Mayberry is in AAA, instead of on our bench.. he can still get better, but that won’t happen if he’s just watching..

Cairo, Ozuna, Bruntlett, Coste, etc.. are as good as they’ll ever be.. they don’t need to worry about developing these guys

That’s a very logical explanation, Dipsy. It makes a lot of sense when you consider how well Ruiz has been hitting. They don’t really wanna take the bat out of his hands right now and they would certainly rather have him behind the plate but they still want to give Coste some opportunities (the guy has been clutch at times)… bring in a 3rd insurance catcher and Coste becomes your primary RH bat. Is he our best option? Maybe not… but it’s cheap and it affords us some flexibility until we decide what we want to do (if we want to do anything). If Feliz/Ruiz keep hitting, you don’t need to worry about double switches, do you?

You are so right, with JRoll strugging, Bruntlett hitting just as bad and Dobbs struggling, a fielder would be the LAST thing we needed to use going against our rivals. My god you are sooooo right. Good thing we have 3 catchers. I mean we could just use one every 3 innings so we don’t wear them down. Now I see the point of it all.
