According to ESPN’s bottom-line, Clay Condrey will be placed on the 15-day disabled list tomorrow with an oblique strain. Left handed relief pitcher Sergio Escalona will be recalled from Tripe-A Lehigh Valley.
Condrey is 4-2 with a 3.71 ERA this season. He was an unsung hero this season, but struggled in his last two outings allowing 6 earned runs in 0.1 innings.

Why not? I guess it is his turn.

Hopefully Escalona can handle turning a 1 run deficit into a 3 run deficit.

Hey up until recently (I suspect due to injury) Condrey was money this year.

Another one!?? Ugh
I hope Lidge comes back firing from the DL… and the Romero-Madson-Lidge trio can return to normalcy.

Injuries happen. Complaining about them makes us no better than the Mets fans complaining about it.

Good. I’m glad this guy is going on the DL. Tell me all you want about how he’s been so good this season and really helped the team early on. That’s fine, and I’m appreciative for that.
But lately, Clay Condrey has had absolutely NOTHING when he stepped out on the mound. His control was off, he is throwing up complete slop, and he has been lacking the movement or decisiveness to get hitters out with 2 strikes.
He could use the time off while recovering. He’s been banged up for awhile.

Bridget, we don’t root for injuries. I want to beat teams who have all their guys healthy. You never root for injuries.

Didn’t the Phillies go through a slump last June? I wasn’t here, so I don’t know. Better to have these guys out now and not in September.

yikes…well i like escalona, he has good stuff but jeez. i know they had mentioned clay had been having back issues but i thought it wasnt serious and a couple days of rest and not pitching would be all he needed. the only good thing about this is that it happened now rather than later.

LETS JUST HAVE EVERYBODY ON THE DL..I MEAN EVERYBODY….I’D RATHER HAVE THAT NOW…THEN AUG/SEPT/OCT. GET EVERYBODY RIGHT….especially our hitters…cause right now, they aren’t hitting a fly. (especially sunday) and practice getting runners to score in runs.

I forgot about Taschner. Why couldn’t he go on the DL? He’s been no help to us at all! Any chance he’ll be cut once the bullpen has some non-injured pitchers in it?

Barney and Tony, Toronto has some of the best Asian food outside of Asia. Really great Indian, Korean and Japanese places. I used go there a lot for work. It’s a massive city- hard not to find a nice bar to sit in. Ontario still has strong connections to England and Ireland, so there are a lot of nice English and Irish pubs. You don’t need to go out of your way to find a nice bar. Toronto has a lot of change over, there have been a few places that I really loved that are no longer there. So I don’t want to recommend anywhere, but the Village Idiot was great the last time I was there.
One thing I would recommend before the game is to check out the Steam Whistle brewery. It’s right across the street from Rogers Centre. It is $8 CAD for a tour. And the tours leave on the hour and half hour , so get there at about 5 or 35 after the hour, and they will let you drink for free for 25 minutes. And then you can drink a beer or two during the tour, and then after the tour they let you drink for another half hour. I’ve gotten a nice buzz going there a few times for $8.
Ohh, and whatever you do, avoid the Distillery District. Do not let anybody talk you into going there. It is the biggest disappointment you will ever come across.

AJ You are correct SIR! All these injuries are pissing me off.HOWEVER I do not look for excuses…you put the Best 9 out there that you have and hope one or two of them has a great game.At the way this is going, the NL East could be a dogfight again just like 2008

Grrrumpy Miner – This is why I like you! We may disagree on teams, but you bring the right argument! Yes, I said it in another board, but I have no idea if we’ll be in first. I won’t say we will and I won’t say we won’t. Too many variables everywhere! I wouldn’t go as far as saying the Nats can get in it, but they even have an ability to make a run and catch up.

This is what happens when your starting pitching has a celebration for pitching 6 innings.

The ‘blame’ has to go past the starting pitching. The offense recently hasn’t helped the bullpen out one bit and has forced every arm in the bullpen to face hard innings night after night. Like there’s a difference between a 1 and 3 out save in the 9th, there’s a difference between a comfortable 3+ outs and pitching with the game on the line.
There’s been no precidence set for the bullpen to be effective so there’s no reason to be surprised they haven’t. Night after night the bullpen has rolled out reliever after reliever and it hasn’t really felt like there’s been the expectation to win so it’s just been a case of waiting for the other shoe to drop.
The NL style of play means playing smart and until the offense allows the starters to not be pulled for pinch-hitters in the middle innings as well as showing it’s capable of breaking a deadlock in the late innings, then the bullpen is going to continue to look tatty.

This is the real gut check. the Phils have played HORRIBLY lately, and if they can keep first now, while the Phils have more players on the DL than the Mutts. Thats a good sign.

Obviously, there are many worries with this road trip (9 games) that begins with Tampa Bay, the highest scoring team in the Majors. The pitching staff (starters & bullpen) must step up to compensate a slumping offense. Hopefully, Howard can make this trip to Tampa Bay.
Let’s go Phillies!

I know we need pitching, but is there any way the Nats would part with Zimmerman for some young pitching or is that just wishful thinking?

psujoe – unlikely they would trade in the same division.
