I know we need pitching, but is there any way the Nats would part with Zimmerman for some young pitching or is that just wishful thinking?

Obviously, there are many worries with this road trip (9 games) that begins with Tampa Bay, the highest scoring team in the Majors. The pitching staff (starters & bullpen) must step up to compensate a slumping offense. Hopefully, Howard can make this trip to Tampa Bay.

This is the real gut check. the Phils have played HORRIBLY lately, and if they can keep first now, while the Phils have more players on the DL than the Mutts. Thats a good sign.

The ‘blame’ has to go past the starting pitching. The offense recently hasn’t helped the bullpen out one bit and has forced every arm in the bullpen to face hard innings night after night. Like there’s a difference between a 1 and 3 out save in the 9th, there’s a difference between a comfortable 3+ outs and pitching with the game on the line.

There’s been no precidence set for the bullpen to be effective so there’s no reason to be surprised they haven’t. Night after night the bullpen has rolled out reliever after reliever and it hasn’t really felt like there’s been the expectation to win so it’s just been a case of waiting for the other shoe to drop.

The NL style of play means playing smart and until the offense allows the starters to not be pulled for pinch-hitters in the middle innings as well as showing it’s capable of breaking a deadlock in the late innings, then the bullpen is going to continue to look tatty.

Grrrumpy Miner – This is why I like you! We may disagree on teams, but you bring the right argument! Yes, I said it in another board, but I have no idea if we’ll be in first. I won’t say we will and I won’t say we won’t. Too many variables everywhere! I wouldn’t go as far as saying the Nats can get in it, but they even have an ability to make a run and catch up.

Barney and Tony, Toronto has some of the best Asian food outside of Asia. Really great Indian, Korean and Japanese places. I used go there a lot for work. It’s a massive city- hard not to find a nice bar to sit in. Ontario still has strong connections to England and Ireland, so there are a lot of nice English and Irish pubs. You don’t need to go out of your way to find a nice bar. Toronto has a lot of change over, there have been a few places that I really loved that are no longer there. So I don’t want to recommend anywhere, but the Village Idiot was great the last time I was there.

One thing I would recommend before the game is to check out the Steam Whistle brewery. It’s right across the street from Rogers Centre. It is $8 CAD for a tour. And the tours leave on the hour and half hour , so get there at about 5 or 35 after the hour, and they will let you drink for free for 25 minutes. And then you can drink a beer or two during the tour, and then after the tour they let you drink for another half hour. I’ve gotten a nice buzz going there a few times for $8.

Ohh, and whatever you do, avoid the Distillery District. Do not let anybody talk you into going there. It is the biggest disappointment you will ever come across.
