This is one of the most depressing weekends I can recall in a while, as far as the Phillies are concerned. Something tells me we’ll be seeing Big Mike Zagurski before the week is out!

It’s possible. The bullpen is wasted at this point. And it’s obvious the Phillies need to add a starter. Amaro will be working overtime.

Wow. Today’s line up makes me wonder if I should just skip this game:

Rollins SS, Victorino CF, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Werth RF, Dobbs LF, Feliz 3B, Coste C, Happ P.

Aren’t we facing Josh Beckett today? Why no Raul? WHY IS ROLLINS STILL BATTING LEAD OFF? I have a bad feeling the broom is coming down on us Phils fans today. This might be a nice afternoon to catch The Hangover!

Greg, that’s exactly what I thought when I read the lineup. It’s almost as if Charlie is giving this game away since he doesn’t feel we have a chance to win it anyway. Sitting Ibanez in THIS game facing THIS pitcher is like intentionally shooting yourself in the foot and then trying to go out there and play baseball with a bullet hole in your foot.

Right, because it’s absolutely impossible and unacceptable to even think that Raul might need to rest …

If the Phils had a good right-handed outfield bat, they could sit Raul against a tough lefty, but since their best two outfield bats are lefties (Stairs and Dobbs) Charlie sits Raul against a righty.

I would have been very happy with 1 of 3 against Boston, but Beckett is on fire. Let’s just hope the Yankees win.

Guess Charlie figures by giving Ibanez off today and with the team off tomorrow he gets extra rest. The guy does deserve a break. My only issue is that Charlie is clearly clueless as to how to put a lineup together…Werth goes 3-4 out of the 6th hole after being moved out of 5th and what does Charlie do? Well put him back in the 5 hole of course. Leaves Jimmy at lead off even though he is batting a solid 050 avg in his last 20 at bats since being moved out of the 6 hole…makes sense to leave him in lead off. Don’t want to mess with his confidence.

But wait, we will send Escalona down after giving up his first runs after a handful of solid performances…great job Amaro. Great job. Why not send that a$$hat Taschner down and bring up Walker in his place. Whatever, I am not the GM or manager, I have no idea what I am talking about, just a frustrated fan.

Wait…lemme get this straight. The righty that can’t hit righties (Werth) plays against the tough righty while the lefty MVP candidate sits AND we have a day off tomorrow. WTF? Damn, Beckett’s a stud. Boston is making us look like children. I would really love to know who that pig Taschner has pictures of to be able to stay a member of this team.

Dipsy this isn’t Taschner fault, he just isn’t good enough, it’s amaro fault for picking him up,When the gm and scouting tell the manager this guy is going to help , its there fault, the player isn’t dogging it, Boston has pitching, that no one else can match and our payroll for pitching is higher. They just draft and pay high school kids big money, which we don’t do . for example Joe Saunders, was our draft choice, but we low ball him, this year first round pick Gibson, we low ball and he didn’t sign, same with another pick for next year texas university Brandon workman, Joe nathan was another we didn’ sign, point is Boston right now has some really good talent that they sign, they told the commisioner to go screw and pay over slot for masterman, Lester, and others.

Raul has been throwing himself up against walls, the turf, he does anything and everything he possibly can to catch the ball out there. I thought after one of those body-abusing catches last night he looked like he was in pain, but then who wouldn’t be after these last two games? It’s not the best time to give him a rest, but MAYBE he needs it.

We were going to go see Star Trek today, but that’s been pushed back til Tuesday, not sure if I’m going to watch this one, may have to take a pass.

I too noticed Ibanez’s grimaces in the field and at bat plus getting hit by a pitch from one of Bosox’s young fireballers (Bard) the other night had to take a lot out of him.

the 37 yr old Ibanez’s body is taking its’ toll. Last season he had played every game ( all 162 games). I can understand the manager’s concern and sees an opportunity to rest Ibanez today plus off day tomorrow. He has done that with Utley earlier this season despite the player’s objection.

Add in the factor that Beckett had equal success this season against both righthanded and lefthanded hitters (both hitting .231 against him).
As a matter of fact, in checking Beckett’s career stats, righthanded hitters have hit .237 and the lefties hitting .244.

If indeed Ibanez is out of the lineup today, the hitters will have to step up for him.

Looks like it all worked out somehow.

Great series. We may have lost 2/3 but each team had 1 decisive victory and than the extra inning win on friday could have gone either way. Not too bad considering the pitching matchups.
