Brad Mills vs. Joe Blanton (4-3, 5.17 ERA)
Time: 1:05 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia
Weather: Cloudy, 67

Joe Blanton and the Phillies will face off with Brad Mills and the Blue Jays for a Business Person’s Special today at the Bank.

Mills is making his major league debut against the Phillies. He was selected in the fourth round of the 2007 draft, ascending the Jays’ system quickly thanks to some high strikeout numbers. Mills went 3-2 with a 1.10 ERA for triple-A New Hampshire this season, getting the call to Toronto because Casey Janssen hit the disabled list with shoulder inflammation. The lefty has a weird delivery, throwing a lot of curveballs and changeups with his fastball to get his strikeouts.

The Phils will be without its best lefty hitter, as Raul Ibanez hit the disabled list today. In his place comes John Mayberry Jr., who will start in right field today. Jayson Werth goes to left field; meanwhile, Jimmy Rollins will lead off and Mayberry will hit seventh.

Your gameday beer: We’re feeling pretty crummy lately, so we need something hard and strong. I suggest Bigfoot by Sierra Nevada. This Barleywine is loaded with flavor and alcohol content, coming in at more than 9 percent. It’ll hit you like a ton of bricks. Get ready for the Gs. We sure need them today.

Go Phillies!

Nice Hit to tie the game, but Shane Victorino is one of the dumbest baseball players ive ever seen. you dont steal there.

  • Posts: 0 The Little Guy

2nd time this year Victorino did that.

Remember 2 years ago in the opening series against the Braves he did that, but he was trying to steal 3rd?

Fitting way to finish off the sweep. Rod freaking Barajas.

I cannot stand barajas. He couldn’t do this when he was in Philly?

    Rod F*ing Barajas…

Barajas couldn’t do anything when he was in Philly. Now he’s 8 for 16 the last two years against the Phils.

with the exception of the HR, that was an easy inning for madson…why did he have to throw that pitch?!?

justin – and with 2 outs…could understand if there was 1 out to avoid the dp…hard not to like Shane but sometimes his baseball IQ is….well, raises a eyebrow or two

He may be the most irritating of all Phillie killers. He certainly did not do this as a Phillie and does not do it as a Jay – except against the Phils. It is as if he settles for mediocrity to save himself for confrontations with his former team and thereby to tantalize them.
Of course, it would be silly to assert that this is really true, but it does at least seem that way. Madson should have thrown off-speed to Barajas; that change-up would have had him shaking his head all the way back to the dugout. The bullpen really is showing its wear and tear; at least Madson limited the damage to a single run.
Now that they are behind by just one, they need to remind themselves not to try slugging their way back into the game. The previous inning saw good production: an opposite field (see what going the other way can do?) double by Rollins and a nice single up the middle by Victorino. That’s what they need – no clueless swinging at junk or letting cookies pass by.

I hate this guy… effectively wild. Gotta be patient but you don’t know when it’s gonna go over for a strike… he’s got some fire.

it was a bad choice by madson to throw that pitch on a 0-2 count but what can you do now…

  • Posts: 0 The Little Guy

mg52..the most irritating Phillie killer is Jeff Conine.

We’re in this position because Shane decided to run instead of allow Chase Utley the chance to bring him around.

ryan swings at ball 3 and 4!! good job

griffin – wes helms, barajas, rolen..i hope this isn’t a pattern of ex- Phillies punishing us.

I don’t have a problem with Vic trying to steal. A single from Chase wouldn’t have scored him from 1st, so he was trying to get into scoring position.

    yeah, I forgot about Helms.

  • Posts: 0 The Little Guy

Griffs right, if he didn’t steal it would of taken 2 hits to score, rather than 1 if he was safe.

If he steals, its a great play, Vics the smartest man alive.

If he’s out, Victorino is an idiot, stupid player, etc.

    Agressive baserunning, i dig it.

i understand vic in wanting to get in scoring position..not the smartest move though
