Little Guy, you’re right: Conine was up there. So were/are Vladimir Guerrero, Mike Lowell, Tim Redding, David Wright, Carlos Delgado, many others. But at least none of those guys had been on the Phils as so-so players and then came back to trouble them.
I don’t like the swing that Mayberry took there. I appreciate the effort he has put in and think that he has potential, but they called up a power bat when they probably should be aiming for a contact hitter. There are many lessons to learn from this subpar series, and while we have seen them emerge from many slumps and likely will see them emerge from this, it might be time to shake some things up. So far, it seems that all parts of their game are struggling.
