Gameday 2009, Posts
Tim is on vacation this weekend, so Amanda’s doing the gameday post and Brian is making the beer selection.
Baltimore Orioles (31-37) at Philadelphia Phillies (36-30)
Jeremy Guthrie (4-7, 5.42 ERA) vs. Cole Hamels (4-2, 4.48 ERA)
Time: 1:35 p.m at Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Cloudy, 71
TV:MyPHL 17
Twitter: Phillies Nation
The Phillies look to get back on track and avoid the sweep. They have the right guy on the mound to do that. Many times this season, Cole Hamels has had high pitch counts. He’ll have to work ahead in the count, and keep the pitch count down to work late into the game.
Jermey Guthrie is coming off a tough outing against the New York Mets. He allowed five runs (3 earned) in 6.1 innings, including a three run first inning.
Shane Victorino is batting .429 with a home run in seven at bats against Guthrie. Brian Roberts, the hero for the Orioles last night, is 2-2 with a home run off Cole Hamels.
The Phillies are once again without Ryan Howard, who still has a high fever. Greg Dobbs will get the start.

Your Gameday Beer: This afternoon we need something strong, so we’re going with Innis & Gunn from Scotland. This beer is aged in oak barrels previously used to mature bourbon – a novel concept. Think vanilla, toffee and orange aromas, with a malty, lightly oaked palate; soothing and warm in the finish. Have some pepperjack cheese fries with bacon with dad today.
Happy Father’s Day and Go Phillies!

Sorry to depress you even more Mike D, but seeing how this team witha lising record has 8 hits against our ACE, this wont be going to extra innings. We might be tied in the 9th, Manuel will put Madson in and they will end up beating us byt 3 in the 9th. :( Damn its not even 5 and I need a drink already.

Second time in a week that this team could potentially lose two games because of blow calls. WTF? It’s one thing to play poorly and lose, that I can stomach. But having a chance to win taken from you…garbage.

The problem is baseball umps are not held accountable like NFL refs. Mostly because they ump 162 games so the MLB sees it as, mistakes will be made with that amount of games and calls being made but with the NFL, each bad call can have a drastic effect on a teams record. But I agree, something should be done about this crap. Especially the home run call that was not reviewed when replay is in the stadium. This one though, I just don’t understand how you can blow that call…he was 5 feet away and had a perfect view, the play was coming towards him and not away from him. No one was in his way, nothing and he still blew it.

oh I forgot Budd Selig is comissioner…he’s to busy whining about how NFL gets a few pass while MLB doesn’t…well maybe if he grew a pair like actually reprimanding umpires for a start

Ed R. – yeah with 162 games things play out in the wash, but I think that playing everyday and the subsquent short memory allows mounting problems to go unaddressed. Ultimately it is what keeps the game from evolving …. (not that I think they play to many games), but …oh crap! Time to tear up the clubhouse

One of the strongest hitting teams in baseball, and they get only one solo homer in 9 innings against the Orioles??? Awful…

This team is a disgrace. The fans have been too kind. 10 blown saves and a leadoff hitter who should be playing in the special olympics.

protest the game and make sure the ump is suspended…After the crap Selig pulled during the WS its the least he could do. Supposedly there’s a command center where every game is viewed…yeah by chimps cause nothing ever is done.

well i give up on this season like this team has. they are going nowhere. utley looks pathetic. werth swings at pitches inside on a 3-1 count. how can you not score more then 1 run against a pathetic pitching staff.
