Philadelphia Phillies (36-31) at Tampa Bay Rays (37-34)
Jamie Moyer (4-6, 6.35 ERA) vs. David Price (1-1, 3.46 ERA)

Weather: Dome

The Phillies road trip starts with a World Series rematch against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Phillies look to turn around their struggles on the road where they are a Major League best 23-9. They will turn to Jamie Moyer tonight.
Moyer struggled in his last outing, allowing six earned runs in six innings. However, in Game 3 of the World Series, Moyer had some success against the young Rays’ lineup. He allowed five hits, three runs, and struck out five in 6.1 innings.
Moyer will be opposed by the Rays’ best prospect, David Price. Price started the year in the minors, mainly for arbitration reasons. In his last start, Price allowed five earned runs in seven innings against the Colorado Rockies. In two relief appearances in the World Series, Price gave up two runs, one earned, in 3.1 innings.
Moyer will also see a familiar face, Pat Burrell. The Phillies better hope he doesn’t crush the Phillies like he crushed the New York Mets throughout his career.
Hopefully all the offense comes from the Phillies lineup, which will include Ryan Howard as the designated hitter. In addition to Howard, the starting lineup will include Chris Coste at first base. John Mayberry Jr. will be playing left.
Yo
ur Gameday Beer: Tonight’s beer is Holy Mackerel’s Special Golden Ale…as in “Holy Mackerel, the Phillies need a win!” This strong golden Belgian-style ale is brewed on the east coast of Florida in Fort Lauderdale. It was the winner of the Sam Adams sponsored World Homebrew Contest and weighs in at a hefty 8.5% ABV. Our friends at Barely Dine recommend a toasted Italian sandwich loaded with salami, prosciutto, provolone and Italian hot peppers. -By Brian

David Price is thankful that the Beard is not in the starting lineup.

As my girl likes to say “the Beard is weird!”. Why in God’s name is Coste playing 1st. A little help here?

Coste played everywhere in the infield in the minors and gets that extra right handed bat in the line-up. Might come in handy if the Phils actually feel like hitting tonight.
If anyone here (and would assume this applies to no-one) hasn’t read Coste’s autobiography get hold of it, that’s unless you hate the guy in which don’t read because you can’t help but want to see him only play for the Phils.

NJ…Why wouldn’t you just DH Coste and play Howard at 1B? Also, what do you know about Joe Savery. Is he a prospect now? Is he a “crafty lefty” or a “stuff” pitcher. I heard he doesn’t have much velocity.

Manuel feels it’ll be easier on Howard if he only DHs tonight. I agree. Coste has a lot of experience at 1B actually, as noted above. He’ll be alright over there.
Our bigger concern should be Moyer going tonight. I’m nervous for him. It’ll be nice to see Pat the Bat again on TV.

To Dipsy~ Howard remarked..”“Am I 100 percent? No,” Howard said before Tuesday’s game. “But I’m a lot better. 75-80 percent. Right now it’s mostly congestion.”
Common sense dictates that the manager’s concern for Howard’s health would be to use him as a DH without the need of further exertion of playing ON the field. Howard wants to play and fortunately DH assignment is available.

We need AL East teams and St. Louis to win tonight except for TB here to build some games on the NL East. Good Job Howard. 3-0 Phillies with 0 outs and howard on 2nd.

If the Tropicana Dome was the Phillies stadium, I would desert on the team pretty quickly too. It makes the Vet look like Fenway.

Ah well. They got around, and TB will have a hard time making up for 6 runs in the first!

Now if they score 6 in every inning, we might have enough run support for Moyer…
