Philadelphia Phillies (36-31) at Tampa Bay Rays (37-34)
Jamie Moyer (4-6, 6.35 ERA) vs. David Price (1-1, 3.46 ERA)

The Phillies road trip starts with a World Series rematch against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Phillies look to turn around their struggles on the road where they are a Major League best 23-9. They will turn to Jamie Moyer tonight.
Moyer struggled in his last outing, allowing six earned runs in six innings. However, in Game 3 of the World Series, Moyer had some success against the young Rays’ lineup. He allowed five hits, three runs, and struck out five in 6.1 innings.
Moyer will be opposed by the Rays’ best prospect, David Price. Price started the year in the minors, mainly for arbitration reasons. In his last start, Price allowed five earned runs in seven innings against the Colorado Rockies. In two relief appearances in the World Series, Price gave up two runs, one earned, in 3.1 innings.
Moyer will also see a familiar face, Pat Burrell. The Phillies better hope he doesn’t crush the Phillies like he crushed the New York Mets throughout his career.
Hopefully all the offense comes from the Phillies lineup, which will include Ryan Howard as the designated hitter. In addition to Howard, the starting lineup will include Chris Coste at first base. John Mayberry Jr. will be playing left.

ur Gameday Beer: Tonight’s beer is Holy Mackerel’s Special Golden Ale…as in “Holy Mackerel, the Phillies need a win!” This strong golden Belgian-style ale is brewed on the east coast of Florida in Fort Lauderdale. It was the winner of the Sam Adams sponsored World Homebrew Contest and weighs in at a hefty 8.5% ABV. Our friends at Barely Dine recommend a toasted Italian sandwich loaded with salami, prosciutto, provolone and Italian hot peppers. -By Brian

Well with the DH in effect and we are through the order once, tonight you can imagine that Jimmy is batting 9th and Vic is leading off.

Know what is sad? Only 5 of the 10 runs are earned. I kind of feel bad for Price, but happy about the game.

Jimmy should be batting 8th if anything. The 9th hitter is like a secondary leadoff hitter in the AL. if jimmy’s OBS was higher 9th would be fine.

Just imagine that J-out is the pitcher in the lineup and it’s not that frustrating…

Jamie just tipped over 100 pitches. I think we can squeeze one more inning out of him, given our 9 run lead and the fact that he hasn’t had to bat.

Hopefully Moyer could finish the 7th… I doubt it will happen… but it’d be nice to see him get a shot… I can’t remember when was the last time he went 7 complete innings…

ok just got back and have one question why no Moyer in the 7th I mean come on it is 10-1 and he is throwing 75 mph he can’t go another inning there to protect the pen a little

With how bad of shape the pitching staff on the Phillies is, the last thing they should do is push Moyer to go a little further.

I think they could have tried to get another inning out of Moyer, but as the players like to joke: he risks missing the last shuttle back to the old folks home.

lets hope this is not all the offense these guys have for the next two games if so maybe they should of saved some of these runs, Just kidding, but it would be nice if in the ninth you could take 3 runs off the board and start tomorrow up 3-0 like roll over minutes

yea Tracey wouldn’t that be great, think about it, I like my closer I have a 9-1 lead I’ll take 5 runs off the board and make it 4-1 you get four runs off my closer you win, but I start tomorrow off up 5-0 that would be sooo cool
really laughing at myself now, can the guys in the white coats come and take me away,
I think the Phillies them song should be On The Road Again, so happy to be on the road again

That was Rheal Cormier, I still get chills just thinking about him. He was great at giving up crucial runs in the 7th.

Cards up 3-0 after Pujols singled in 2. The Cards still had 1st and 2nd one out but got two guys picked off without another pitch being thrown.

Todd Kalas is the play-by-play guy for the Rays, right? Does anybody know if there is a clip of him calling the final out from the World Series last year?

shag, if you want to watch baseball games on the computer, try rojadirecta.com
They don’t have every single game and the quality may not be great, but it’s free and it’s better than nothing.
