Philadelphia Phillies (39-34) at Atlanta Braves (35-40)

Joe Blanton (4-4, 5.06 ERA) vs. Derek Lowe (7-6, 4.53 ERA)
Time: 7:00 p.m at Turner Field
Weather: Sunny, 90
TV: Comcast Sportsnet
Twitter: Phillies Nation

The Phillies are happy interleague play is over after posting a 6-12 record against the American League.  They head to Turner Field, where they were a perfect 9-0 last season.  They’ll have to extend their win streak against Derek Lowe, who shutout the Phillies in eight innings back in April.

Joe Blanton was roughed up by the Braves earlier this year.  In 12 innings, his ERA is 9.75 and Braves hitters are batting .321 against him this season.

Jimmy Rollins is back in the starting lineup, and out of all the Phillies hitters, Rollins has the most success against Lowe.  He is batting .304 against Lowe in his career. On the other hand, Brian McCann is 6-for-7 with 2 home runs and six RBI against Blanton.

With Rollins back in the lead-off spot, the rest of the lineup looks like this: Rollins (SS)/ Victorino (CF)/ Utley (2B)/ Howard (1B)/ Werth (RF)/ Dobbs (LF)/ Feliz (3B)/ Ruiz (C)/ Blanton (P).

Red Rocket AleYour Gameday Beer- Today’s beer is Red Rocket Ale.  Careful, this Amber/Red Ale is on fire. Its deep cinnamon color makes for a beautiful pour so be sure to release it from the bottle. Its hoppy, caramel malt flavor comes from a complex recipe of five different grains. If you can, roast a chicken with all the fix-ins. -By Brian

Defense means nothing if you can’t hit the ball. Hey I have an idea let the Mets have him they have a bunch of want a be’s playing for them.

Chan Ho might be the best most hated man in Philadelphia we have ever had.

And the entire New York met team dating back to 1965; we liked the 62-64 Mets

Here comes a bold statement- Albert Pujols is a heck of a baseball player. 30 HR’s 31 SO’s. That is rediculous.

well my fav player before Rollins was Burrell, but he left so I had to replace him with Rollins

I’d love Puljos if he were a Phillie. I can’t forgive him for hitting Lidge’s pitch into Canada

M.P. again we agree 99% of the time, I also like Lidge, but realisitically, with those blown saves for Lidge, I can recall 3 that were completely BS. one was an error which lead to a run and a blown save, the other was a homer to right field in Yankees stadium. the error is a fact of baseball, and when we commit errors they come in bunches, just like today, but had that error not been committed by Feliz, that was a win, another was an error on Utley throwing home, again win, the other was a homer that BARELY made it out at Yankees stadium to right field. A homer to right field in Yankees stadium is BS. Those were 3 I do not place on Lidge, however the other thing about Lidge, he should have been placed on the DL long before he was. He was VERY noticeably off after he hurt his knee and looks much better now.

im sorry keith but you picked a bad time to elevate jimmy’s status to your favorite player. i love the guy but bat him 6th, 7th or 8th and let him bat with some people on base.

Yea, but Chan Ho actually helps out the Phillies and all people do is complain about him.

oh no, werth and mayberry against righties. damn, they found their weakness

I also re-watched that game when Pujols hit the homer against Lidge in that game. He catches all sorts of hell for that game when we was with the Astros, but watch it again. there were 2 outs, and a ground ball which by MOST SS’s, especially our horrible offensensive but great defensive SS would have been the third out. Had he had a good SS for that game, he would have had the save.

Brian – we agree there. I accept criticism for his BS, and I remember the errors and all that led to a few. I blame him for trying to ‘play through it’ when it cost us games, but I admire his duration. The worst part is I should be worrie about the Fish, but I care more about the Mets losing than the Phillies winning.

    That sucked.

At least Werth walked today which is far more than J-Roll did. Again, had J-Roll walked in the 3rd or 5th inning, we would be commenting on a much needed win since the Marlins are playing the Nats. Instead we have to wonder if we can pull it off, which I think we lost that never say die attitude honestly.

Brian – Albert hit his HANGING slider. Felt bad for Lidge then; I wanted Houston to win that series – even though they did, I felt bad.

I 100% agree with that, If I had to choose between the fish winning, or the Mets, I would choose the fish. I HATE the Mets.

Morris – I won’t criticize him now. Last year, I gave up on Myers, and I vowed I would never give up on anyone again until it was over. Ever since then I am cautious about being too critical.

True, but he gave up a homer against arguably the best all around hitter in MLB in the last decade, yet he NEVER would have been pitching to Pujols if Lidge had a good SS to get that ball.

meanwhile, i feel sorry for the pirates again, they traded guys that were decent but making no money for guys that SUCK and are making no money.

hanrahan/milledge for morgan/burnett – WOW, what a crappy trade for the pirates

Brian, I said this before and I will stay on record. If we DESERVE to lose, and the Fish take it, I will sadly pull for them. If the Mets take it, I will root for A-Roid and the yankees before I’d ever root for a Met. Heck, I will pull for Canseco and McGuire being in the HOF before I would root for any Met(s) to win anything.

Johan gabe up another HR to Fielder

two OUTSTANDING points by M.P and Geoff. I will never root for the Mets, and J-Roll no matter how HORRIBLE he is offensively, he is still the best defensive SS. I just really wish he could have at least walked in the 3rd or 5th inning. :(

    Nice team loss there.

Oh well, one for the Braves. We have two more to try and take. As long as we win 2… We played badly anyway.

Mets are down, Fish are down, so let’s hope.

bad loss. jimmy shutout at the plate. 4 runs was enough to win that game if the late relievers hadnt failed yet again

Chan Ho has been their best arm from the bullpen for two months now.

I did – Other than this he did OK. These things happen. Brian is right, if others did more it never would have gotten this far. Team loss… Chan Ho was just the one who gave it up

I don’t think I’d pin this one on Chan Ho, it was a team effort.

ed- i agree, the team seems a little rudderless…Charles Barkely said the Phils are too passive and I agree, its the downside of allowing players to police themselves. I used to laugh @ Varitek’s “C”, but the Red Sox have a more discplined and a heady approach to the game than we do, and I can’t help not think he a plays a part in it . What the Red Sox realize is that in 162 games talent alone is not enough to overcome the Law of Averages. Smart play and small ball (not to mention their rotation) is how you do this. I get weary of all the psychology I here ad nauseum through out baseball … “we need to relax…their pressing…” yadda yadda. It gets a little Oprah for me. Play hard and play smart.

That loss hurts a lot. For some reason I thought the Phillies would win it once it went into extra innings. Silly me.

I know Madson will probably get the Jeltz, but 5 innings and 3ER and 2 blown leads from Blanton is not good enough. Blanton for the Jeltz.

0 for the 24 is JRoll! I mean I love Jimmy but Vic should be leading off and all the trade Victorino people he hit .400 against the AL during Interleague and he still has the scrappyness to want to win it all!

Terri – Well, yes and no. We should have because it was a blown save, but we barely showed up. So yes and no. I am disgusted the way this is going right now. I want us to be the 09 WFCs so bad, but just like last year… Worst part is on June 30 of last year we were doing worse.
