Gameday 2009, Posts
Philadelphia Phillies (31-20) at Los Angeles Dodgers (37-18)
Cole Hamels (3-2, 5.21 ERA) vs. Clayton Kershaw (3-3, 4.34 ERA)
Time: 10:10 p.m. at Dodger Stadium, Chavez Ravine, Calif.
Weather: Mostly sunny, 63
TV: Comcast SportsNet
Twitter: Phillies Nation
The last time these two teams met at Dodger Stadium, the Phillies and Dodgers were the National League’s top two teams. Yet again, they share that status. In fact, they’re baseball’s top two teams, and they meet tonight for the start of four games.
Cole Hamels, who had trouble against Washington, is back and has success against the Dodgers this year: He gave up just a run in seven innings against Los Angeles on May 14. Clayton Kershaw, however, lost to the Phils on May 12, giving up four runs in five innings.
Tonight’s lineup (with Victorino out but OK): Rollins/Utey/Werth/Howard/Ibanez/Feliz/Bruntlett/Ruiz/Hamels.
Your gamenight beer: Magic Hat releases a seasonal called Odd Notion — this is the Summer 2008 version. If you still have it in the fridge, go at it, champ. Let’s get back to those memories of 2008 — remember the grand victories of National League splendor right in Dodger Stadium. Let’s take a couple this weekend. I have an Odd Notion we will.
Go Phillies!

Bruntlett???? Good lord, why? Shouldn’t even be on the team anymore. Coste can play the outfield.

When are the Phillies eligable to call Mayberry back up? I understand they couldn’t do it for this game because the just sent him back down.

I guess it had to be Bruntlett with Kershaw being a lefty. Charlie obviously didn’t want to go left heavy with Stairs or Dobbs.

I predict Eric Bruntlett goes 3-4!

yea i think you pretty much have to start bruntlett because lefties are hitting .111 against kershaw this year, maybe he will get a couple infield singles as his contribution

Reyes is over rated anyway. I’d be more worried if Wright or Beltran went down. If I were a muts fan, which I thankfully am not.

One word for our lineup tonight– patience (I’m especially talking to you Jimmy). We all know Kershaw can be wild, and that can turn into an effective wildness if people are hacking constantly. I don’t think this should be a problem because our lineup has been very disciplined, but I’m sure its being pounded into their brains before this game.
One person who should be LESS patient is Werth. I want to swing at the first pitch he sees from Kershaw if its a fastball (which it will be because Kershaw knows he’s not going to swing).

Thankfully you are one of us, Ed R.
As PGD mentioned, Kershaw is tough on lefties, so I guess starting the Beard tonight is the right call. He can be pinch hit for later on.
Kershaw throws a ton of pitches and usually doesn’t get deep into games though.

he is overrated but i don’t think he is as overrated as people say he is
he can hit, just when he hits he gets thrown out at 2nd

Where is Morris? Normally he comes on here and starts verbally abusing Bruntlett until the Beard has no choice but to do something productive….

Morris fears the Beard.

It’s a shame Vic isn’t playing tonight because he really hits power lefties well. I’m not sure what his actual numbers against Kershaw are but it is a shame we have Beard’s bat in there instead of his.

Crap, only 31 pitches through 2 innings for Kershaw

I hate to be a broken record once again, but this home plate ump has already missed about 3 pitches. That 2-1 to Beardlett? Cmon now. If you are gonna call that a strike you should have rung up Hudson on that 1-2 fastball last inning.

Pure pitching duel. Thats what I’m seeing early on. Not gonna be a high scoring game.

I think part of the reason this board is dead is because nothing has happened in this game yet

well, through three, both pitchers with a minimum of batters. hopefully phils can at least break up a no-hitter though.
