Gameday 2009, Posts
Philadelphia Phillies (32-22) at Los Angeles Dodgers (39-19)
Antonio Bastardo (1-0, 1.50 ERA) vs. Randy Wolf (3-1, 3.21 ERA)
Time: 8 p.m. at Dodger Stadium, Chavez Ravine, Calif.
Weather: Sunny, 66
TV: ESPN
Twitter: Phillies Nation
Antonio Bastardo seeks his second win in as many starts. His mission: Do it against baseball’s best team on baseball’s biggest regular season stage.
Bastardo pitched well in his major league debut, a six-inning, five-strikeout win over the Padres. He’ll have to face a formidable Dodger attack that’s hitting .297 (.815 OPS) against left-handed pitching. Luckily the Phils lefties have had nice outings against Los Angeles so far in the four-game series.
And of course, the Phils should have been looking for a sweep today, but que sera sera.
The Phils will look for a split against former-Phil Randy Wolf. Of those on the 25-man roster, Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Shane Victorino, Cole Hamels, Jamie Moyer, Ryan Madson and Clay Condrey remain as a teammate of Wolfie’s. He’s been throwing well this season, striking out 58 while walking 22 in his 75.2 innings.
Knowing the nature of this series so far, this should be a tight one. So one more question for our fair manager: Is Brad Lidge available tonight?
Your gamenight beer: Tonight I’m celebrating the last two horrible endings by getting behind a skunk: Heineken Premium Lager. It was my gateway beer — a friend of mine in college would order a sixer of Heineken every Thursday night for our college paper Thursday beer fetes. It was the first beer I regularly drank, and that opened me to everything else. Gotta start somewhere, even if it’s a skunk. Hopefully the Phils won’t stink it up tonight. Just in case, eat a non-skunky beef and potatoes.
Go Phillies!

Question: Would you rather have Casey Blake or Pedro Feliz start for your team. Not biased that Blake is a Dodger and Feliz is Phillie. Honest answer

Ok, now I am going to say something and you all can tease me as I do you all:
I think we need to leave Park in as long as he puts up 0s. Rest the pen for Tuesday. Maybe Park will surprise us.

I will get the fielding% on them both though. That was my honest off-the-cuff answer

Good stuff! The more runs, the better if we’re throwing Chan Ho back out there!

Wolf is done for the night. Allows 6 runs in 6.1IP. Cmon Utley.

Feliz, defense is un-canny, and he doesn’t need to be THE man in this lineup.

I like Pedro because you know what youll get. .250avg, 20hr, 75rbi and gold glove defense.

I think this situation is good for Park. If he does well, he may get better. If he gives up one or two, we can pull him for a semi-rested pen.

I like Pedro overall but if I had to pick one to bat with two outs in the ninth and a guy on third i would rather have Blake. He can get the big knock.

Gotta agree with Miles there, even thought Feliz does have the game winning RBI in game 5 of the series.

Feliz .972 average
Blake .966 average

MP I don’t care if it’s Adam Eaton as long as he is putting up 0s. That is the key. But with Park he is so jekyll and hyde and that you never know when you may be leaving him in too long. I would love to see him get through the 7th but then I would pull him immediately.

I liked Pedro from day 1. We got him for the glove so any batting he does is a bonus.

Hey guys, how does the Dodgers offense differ versus the Phillies? I haven’t caught it the past 20 times the announcers talked about it.

Miles – agreed my friend. Keep someone loose in the pen, but cautiously leave him in. I would let him be for NOW. They booed him, so I’d love to see him shut them down until the end.

For one thing, I don’t think the Dodgers have any legit power threats(other then Manny).

This is the stuff that Park has, that made him successful. Now get someone up, but let him stay and see how he reacts.

Not bad, watch the Finals, turned the Phils back on and Park got the 3rd out on a grounder to Utley. Okay

Ok, not a bad outing, typical, no damage.
6 more outs
Leave Park in and warm up Taschner. Rest the pen as much as possible, but keep Madson loose.
