metslogoPhiladelphia Phillies (34-23) at New York Mets (31-26)
Jamie Moyer (4-5, 6.27 ERA) vs. Tim Redding (0-2, 6.97 ERA)
Time: 7:10 p.m. at Citi Field, Queens, NY
Weather: Rain, 64

It might be raining, but if the Phillies and Mets hook up tonight, it’ll be a storm of a different kind brewing at Citi Field. So far in the three-game series we’ve seen two one-run games, one extra-inning game, a bunch of home runs (including three from Chase Utley), great pitching, bad pitching, great defense, bad pitching, clutch hitting, bonehead hitting and plenty of noise. Just your typical Phils and Mets tussle.

Last night Cole Hamels couldn’t survive long, while Mike Pelfrey gave the Mets a solid start. But while the Mets couldn’t solve their own problems against the Phils bullpen, the good guys got theirs. In extras, the Phils escaped every Mets rally until Utley could post his second longball, winning the game. Tonight there might be more longballs: Jamie Moyer and Tim Redding – owners of ERAs north of 6.00 – hook up.

Of course, Redding is known as a certified Phillie Killer. For his career he’s 5-3 with a 3.29 ERA against the Phils. Last year he was mixed in five starts – one dominating (shutout) and one horrid (seven earned), but then three pretty normal starts. Hopefully the Phils can do more than normal against Redding.

Moyer had trouble last time against the Mets, giving up a couple home runs and being lifted early. This season he’s 0-1 with a 13.50 ERA against the Metropolitans.

Your gamenight beer: Citi Field has something good going for it: Big Apple Brews, a nice centrally located kiosk in the centerfield midway. Among the good beers in bottle there were Leffe (a Belgian blonde) and Goose Island IPA. This complex brew has the potent hops, but also contains sweet tastes of citrus. You’ll find it enjoyable, even if you’re at Citi Field (which, as I’ll post tomorrow, is actually a nice ballpark). Chow on some fried shrimp and Basmati rice with this.

Go Phillies!

couldnt tell, because I cant watch the game, and MLB.com said single then thrown out. Made it sound like poor baserunning also, but hard to tell, thats why I ask. Try not to assume.

now for the offense to erupt like crazy

Werth-Feliz-Coste (all getting hits with Moyer hitting a sweet grandslam) ;)

I don’t think it was bad baserunning….honestly I was surprised he was there as quickly as he was. That was a cannon. Summoning the inner Pat Burrell Met Killer inside of him.

Also, I have no idea how the Mets didn’t score that inning.

I’m so bored between innings because I’m used to watching the Mets on Gamecast until we come back on.

miles – yeah, we play good small ball when we want to….there’s times when I think the management ought to enforce this esp. when the pitcher isn’t exactly dealing…i know cholly’s a player’s coach which is good for the general psychology of team, (you know the “intangibles”, like “pickin the next guy up” ) and I think its what people under estimate about us…on the downside it sometimes gets a little to “montessori” for me esp. when poor plate discipline (which is not governed by the Law of Averages) results in low RISP numbers that can cost us a game. With our rotation in question, pitching may not offset the short comings of our streaky offense… manufacturing runs can help turn those potenial losses to wins. Ironic when you think that one of our greastest is considered the game’s best slap hitter. But it looks like they are playing some small ball tonight…

Its seems (again only through the mlb.com feed on the internet) Moyer is bending, but not quite breaking). 2 runs in 4 innings isnt bad. Obviously every fan always wants the starting pitching to not give up any runs, but be honest, thats not usually realistic. Lets hope he goes another 2 innings with no more runs given up.

    nvm

    well he can steal 3rd

Well at least he moved Werth up. I think Werth is fast enough to score from 2nd depending on the hit, so hopefully we tie this thing up as a minimum.

since Sheffield used the cream does that mean he’s in the same boat with Bonds, Clemens, and the rest?

  • Posts: 0 Brian of CO

Thats pretty funny Keith. Well, only one in that inning.

  • Posts: 0 Brian of CO

Didnt Sheffield already admit to using steroids in the past?

greg v. – i know… Redding…you can be comforted by the fact that the Mets bought this pitcher just for us cuz other than when pitching aganist us he’s but a scrub.

  • Posts: 0 Brian of CO

Well J-Roll gets a hit. Hopefully we get at least one back this inning, preferrably tie it up!

what cream, if there is a steroid in it, its probably for its anti-inflammatory purposes…never heard of an cutaneous anabolic steroid
