An MRI revealed that there is no structural damage on Raul Ibanez’s groin. The Phillies nor Raul have a timeframe on how long he will be out.
“I’m feeling better, of course I haven’t done anything. I expect to continue to get better, continue to progress. They found some inflammation. It’s getting better, the staff here is phenomenal, it’s getting better and I expect to be out there,” Raul said.
Also, Brad Lidge (knee) is expected to make a rehab appearance with the Reading Phillies tonight.

When Lidge comes off the DL, let’s all be nice to him. He has endured a rough year mentally and – because of this DL stint – physically. I called for his removal from the closer’s role and will stand by that assertion until he becomes dominant and assertive again, but Lidge – as a decent human being and a persistent athlete – will be backed by me to the very end regardless of the role to which he is assigned.
Of course, there is no question about how we will all feel about Ibanez’s return. I said from his very first press conference in Philly that he was a kind, honest man. That positive impression that he made has more than paid dividends on the field, as well.

Lidge lost his closer job in Houston and it didn’t do him or the team any good, made things with him about 200% worse because it effected him mentally far more than any physical ailment could have effected him.

I remember thats, thats why he is still our closer. They signed him to a 3 year, 37.5 M contract. So hes not going anywhere. Unless theres going to be a repeat of the BY Ryan incident Lidge is our closer for the next 3 years. So hell have to get himself right and be serviceable again.

The Phillies need Lidge if they are to repeat the same success last year. Madson is not your ideal closer. He does not have the mentality and experience for that role.
Wishing a speedy recovery for Lidge.

Lidge will recover. He will return to the team and be named the closer again. I will not have a problem with it because he has a chance to have a fresh start after some time to heal.
I know that he has been signed to a lucrative contract, but the Astros were not entirely wrong when they declared him not to be the closer anymore. They saw that he – despite his admirable persistence – was costing them games. How many times will a closer be sent out there to regain his confidence? He won’t get it back by giving up runs every time he pitches and letting down the rest of the team.
I don’t want Lidge to be in a position where the good work that he has done will be overshadowed. Once he returns, he should have some opportunities to close games. But, if he keeps blowing saves, we will have to accept a change of closer because preserving victories trumps everything else.
