I could not say the Fish are the second best team in the NL. They are, at best, third or fourth, but like every other NL Team, except the Dodgers, very incostistent. They are the second best in the NL East – but the way the division is shaking out that is not saying much.

In my opinion, here is how it shakes out on the top five* – the order of which depends on the day or timeframe:

Dodgers (firm first)
Phillies
Brewers
Marlins
Rockies
Giants

*I know there are 6 there, but because no one is really consistent, those 6 teams battle as the top in the NL. Only the Dodgers have been consistent.

Raul should rest until he is ready to come back. If he felt like he needed to shut it down, then he needs to let it heal 100% and strengthen before coming back. Sometimes you can play through groin/hamstring injuries and sometimes they worsen… his got worse. If he rushes back, the injury will linger… if there’s any way that we can get through until after the all star break without him, that would be awesome.

Put a fork in ‘em… the Mets are done. I’ve said that the Marlins are the second best team on paper in the NL since day one. Their young pitching staff has the potential to be ranked among the best in the big leagues… the injury bug bit them early and a few of those confident young arms had to be put in check (demoted) but if that staff comes around, watch out.

The All-Star game is July 14… and Rauuuul is supposed to come out of the DL on the 3rd… he is “unlikely” to return on that date, so I’m assuming that means they’re giving him 3-5 more days…

He should definitely be able to play the All-Star Game… at least start him, give him only two ABs or something, but let RAUUUUUUL start!

Brian – few things – I do NOT think the Mets can sustain first even if they take it. beltran is now going for a second opinion in Colorado (perhaps you can offer to give him a ride to the clinic). I also think the Fish are more of a threat. I think if Beltran is out for the season, and Reyes is not 100% and then Delgado is out, the Mutts will be dismantled and rebuilt. It is a gut feeling I have. Even if the Mutts beat us, which would be sad because of their AAA status, do you really think they’ll beat the Dodgers in the NLDS or NLCS?

I have doubts WE could do that as is right now. BUT with Rauuuul coming back and a solid pitcher, I think we will sustain first and fight the Fish.

That is a commentary, not inside info.

I forgot that we play the Mutts at home. Sadly, it looks like Eli might actually be correct. Tuesday will probably be a loss because of our “star” short stop and his incredible hitting inability is coming back, but at least he is best defensive SS in the league going against Lowe. Hopefully we can take the remainder, but then we go home against the Mutts. We can barely take a series from the Nationals when playing in Philadelphia, what makes you think we can do it against the Mutts. I am not looking forward to this week.

also, i’d like to note that i, too am disappointed that i won’t get to RAUUUULLLLLLL for the second time in a row this weekend. i am slightly more disappointed, though, that though saturday is my fourth game this year, it’ll be my third time seeing jamie moyer pitch. combined with the four times i saw him last year, that a whole lot of the old guy.

We really don’t know how important it is to Raul to play in the All-Star game. I think he’s probably more concerned with being able to help his team down the stretch, and maybe just the honor of being named to the team will suffice for him. As much as I’d love to see Raul represent, I’d much rather be sure he’s ok for the post season, so if that means more DL time, so be it.

Haren is probably the NL’s best pitcher right now… He could start the All-Star game for the NL… getting him would take A LOT, especially since he’s signed through 2012. I really doubt they’ll trade him to any team… and I *think* he’s already happy in Arizona.

Heck, if I had confidence in our offense I would say let it be, but I don’t trust the offense to carry us either. At least we’re on the road at Turner Field. Friday we go home though and play the Mutts so time is limited.

LOL Greg, I doubt it would be Wang. Haren is my choice. He is by far the best one and on the worst team that would deal quickly. The flip-side is that if the D-Backs trade their Ace, they are out for a year or two.

Manny, the Fish are on a short run right now led by Hanley as you say. I have a feeling they’ll be short lived – BUT in it until the end. I do fear the Mutts though as when they get their big players back they will threaten badly. We MUST and I mean MUST take 2 of 3 in each series until the All-Star break (and at least split the Reds). This is NOT optional, if we want to have an edge this HAS to happen. If it does not, I do not know how long we can continue losing and staying on top.
