Howard will get picked by the manager (although Gonzo and Fielder are just as deserving). Sorry, but that should be it. Rollins is having a stinker of a season at the plate. Victorino is not one of the best 3 OF in the league. He's a nice little player, but thats it. Same goes for Feliz and Ruiz. Solid, but not allstars. Anyone who thinks otherwise is incapable of putting down the koolaid and being somewhat objective. No way a middle reliever with Madsons numbers should make the team either. Middle relievers should only ever make the team when they have historic numbers and/or they need to be on the allstar team because they are the only good player on their major league club. Madson doesnt fit the bill. Jeremy Affeldt has just as many holds and a lower era. Arthur Rhodes has an era of 0.45. Anyone want to put him on the team? Ibanez, Utley, Howard. Thats all it should be, from an objective point of view.

Ibanez and Utley obviously deserve to be all stars. Because people like Manny who were banned still get votes. It is utterly ridiculous to even consider someone who has barely played this season to be eligible. He should not even be in the pool, I'm talking from a numbers standpoint here, regardless of how you feel about Manny being Manny. How can anyone be an "all star" when it's just a straight up popularity contest. All star means you are the best in your field, not the most sought after autograph.

What they SHOULD do is the same thing they do for MPV, have the sportwriters and big names workout overall placement, and then have fan voting as a FACTOR.

Why ? He has the highest OPS+ with a 146. That's even higher than Ryan Howard's OPS+. If he hit higher up in the line up he'd drive in a lot more runs. His OBP has been ridiculous .435. His slugging is .511. He is also fantastic defensively. Ruiz has been nothing short of amazing this year and is quickly becoming my favorite player on the team. I think I need to get a Ruiz shirt instead of an Ibanez shirt.

Everyone vote for Ruiz. He is the best offensive catcher in the NL this year.
