Wonderful news, I love this kid, I think he has the makings of a 1 or 2 starter.

I think he may be able to be a Sept call up, I said it earlier this year, many squawked at me, but he has made great progress.

o correction, dominic is now 2nd in OPS but was first for awhile

I agree, this guy better not be going anywhere except northwards on the roganizational depth chart.

I could see Chacin getting a call up. I completely forgot about him in the whole Brett Myers replacement discussion. He was actually pretty good in Toronto but then got hurt.

Why do I get this feeling that the phillies are putting their pitching prospects on a fast track through the farm system? Already 23 yr old Bastardo who jumped from AA to AAA early this season is now asked to fulfill a spot in the Phillies rotation. Obviously, injuries has played a role in the management’s decision. But Bastardo? Over Kendrick and Carpenter? Well.. all I can hope for is that Bastardo can pitch decently and not disappoint.

Thought I would put this up for thoughts.

So far with the Pitching staff has worked out as such.

April – put the best 5 up from Spring. – Didn’t translate into a good rotation

May- fix weak link in the rotation, Park and replace with Happ, Everyone else seems to improve after very slow start by end of month, we lose Myers.

June- They will work to fill the 5th spot in the rotation in house prospects and see if any of their young talent is ready, aka Bastardo, Carrasco, Carpenter, Kendrick(r2), Worley

July- If spot is not filled internally then you go after the sexy trade of a big name starter.

August- Tweak rotation fill holes in bullpen(if any)

Sept- If there is still a rotation issue look for Drabek to maybe get a call up start, Stutes possibly, depending on progress.

Oct- hopefull still playing, going to 4 man rotation and best.

If they follow that line, I would not see any deals made till after July starts and we see what our young prospects can do. I figure there are 5 starts to cover in June, Hopefully someone like Bastardo claims it early and is succesful or we may see 3-4 different spot starters there.

June will test how good our bats can push us and how strong our system really is. Talent is talent, but not all talent turns into success.

Keystone its about innings pitched, control of your secondary stuff, makeup, cole had it all at a young age .Most kids it takes time to develop.

Less than two weeks ago, he admitted that outside of baseball issues still got into his head and affected his pitching. I’m thinking they want more time down there to make sure his head is screwed on straight.

He hinted that he had allowed himself to be distracted by off-the-field issues.

“I had too many things in my head. I had some personal problems. But [Sunday] I felt good, I felt different,” he said. “I felt different yesterday, more focused, with better concentration.”

He added that he hadn’t been able to throw his curve effectively, but that he was able to throw it with confidence against Gwinnett.

“Something happened that I had four bad games. But that’s yesterday,” he said. “Now I want to stay healthy and be ready to pitch in the big leagues.”

Let me ask you guys something though, I think they didn’t want to bring Carrasco up because they didn’t want to see him flounder and then not be able to trade him. Maybe they are looking to dangle Carrasco and hold onto Bastardo because if Bastardo pitches well he isn’t goin anywhere, so they must be more confident with his stuff.

There is absolutely no way they will call up Drabek in September. he is going to be their new golden boy and he going to be brought along nice and slow. He is still coming off tommy john and throwing him into the majors this quickly would be disasterous. I forsee him getting called up next year bu definately not sooner than that.

You put up a lot of pitchers who were 21 when they came up. You mention Santana, He was called up to a 69 win team, who was looking to the future, ready or not and his record wasn’t anythink to brag about and didn’t he get traded, florida has a small market and small payroll and has to bump kids ready or not. Some teams will make kids take there lumps in the bigs because that is all they can do. if they need a pitcher they don’t have the money to go out and get a top pitcher, We are a contending team, and to put that pressure on most young kids can ruin them, judging when they are ready, is a hard thing. andrew miller when he sign his contract was getting paid more than Cole, he was at almost 2 million so florida probabley figure if they had to pay him major league money he should be up. And so far he has been a bust. You watch martis pitch do you think he is ready? They nail his off speed stuff. Don’t you think as bad as washington is they should let this kid pitch in the minors, until he is ready so they don’t ruin his confidence like a galvin floyd.

Drabek is one kid that I would not move. He’s still so young and has such a high ceiling. People said the same thing about Carrasco, but he hasn’t progressed much over the last year. I’d use Carlos as trade bait and keep this gem in our pockets.
