if he is added to list of names that have all ready had hip surgery this season i’m gonna be pissed. it will leave a huge hole in the this team with he defense and getting on base at the top of the line up (cause j-roll ain’t doing it)…….. what is it with all this hip injuries this season??? somebody has to investigate this it’s becoming far to common (roid related???)

Sweet deal! Madson comes through for Happ and the Phils sweep the Pads in San Diego – wow. What a test coming up! The Dodgers have the best home record in baseball and we have the same record in road wins –
This is one hot club that has got it together without Manny
If the Phils can manage a split this would be a standout road trip heading into Mutsville,
    Bring em on

I hate the muts, the stinkin fish – at least the Dodgers without Manny are still fun to watch – spunky guys
This should be fun – pray for our boy vic

pb, I doubt its Roid related. Just because A-Roid had the injury, doesnt mean its Roid related. Maybe Im in dream world, and I know many more players than we realize use PED’s, I dont think (or at least hope) Vic and Utley use them(same injury Utley had right).

Are the Phillies trying to set a record for most roster moves in one week? Unfortunately, cannot bring Mayberry back right away due to transaction rules. I wanted Werth to get some rest but I guess it will be short-lived. Dobbs instead of Stairs tonight?

I guess Vic will get some rest now.

Get well Vic. Hopefully a couple days rest will be all he needs for the hip to settle down.

It will be Bruntlett tonight in right vs. the lefty Kershaw for the Dodgers. Dobbs and Stairs against righties with Werth in center. Let’s pray Vic is not out long. He was really raking and JRoll continues to try to pull everything (go the other way with it one time Jimmy!!). At least Werth got a hit after replacing Vic last night. We need to get him going again. He has looked lost at the plate for the last week.

That being said, 31-20 ain’t bad!!!

Werth to CF.. Bruntlett playing RF until Mayberry comes back if Victorino is going to be out for a while

Quintin Berry, playing AA-Reading, is a name that could be out there as a trade possibility.

    Michael Taylor (48 games, 171 at-bats), also at AA-Reading

TOP PROSPECT, Dominic Brown, playing A-Clearwater

Brown should be untouchable and the only way I let Taylor go is for one of the top of the rotation guys we have been talking about like Peavy or Halladay.

Why think trade now. I think the Phills have bought some time with the performances of Happ and Bastardo. No need to panic and make a move now when they can wait until closer to the trade deadline as long as these young guys keep dealin’.

The longer you wait the more itll cost you for top end guys because other teams will drive up the price. The Braves got off for cheap with McClouth because they had no challengers. Sure they gave up good prospects but it shouldve been more than they gave up.

I agree with Geoff. We need to move soon—before it gets too expensive to grab a top-of-the-rotation guy. The pitching performances by Happ and Bastardo make us look less desperate now and may help our bargaining position somewhat. But these guys are No 4. and 5 at least this year. Peavy sounds pretty unlikely but I think we could get Halladay (if he’s on the market in the next three weeks) or Bedard (don’t mind the attitude). I am not sure how much I would take Oswalt. He’s expensive, secured for a number of years, getting up there in age and unnecessary in the future.

McClouth isn’t really that good.. he’s better than what they had, but he’s not great

It’s the equivalent of adding Cory Lidle, Kyle Lohse, or Joe Blanton..

I kinda think that other teams have us by the balls right now.. lets keep winning games, tell teams that we don’t NEED to add a starting pitcher.. and once teams like the Indians, Astros, etc.. fall back farther and farther from the postseason race.. they’ll have just as much reason to trade their pitching as will to acquire it.

Phillies Front Office is smart.. and they won’t overpay for a guy that isn’t going to be better than what we have.

I share my concerns for Victorino with others here. As one poster mentioned, Victorino has stepped up for Rollins as an offensive cataylst. The flyin’ Hawaiin is having his best season to date (currently with .300 BA ). The past few seasons we have seen a rash of hip related injuries involving such players as Utley, A-Rod, Delgado and Myers. There are some thoughts that an overemphasis in training on a certain part of the body early in player’s development while ignoring the remainder of the anatomy may be part of the problem. I suspect there will be further investigation into possible causes as time goes on.

I’m hopeful that Victorino’s injury is not serious and need not be put on the DL. He is a irreplaceable part in the scheme of the team’s continued success.

I didn’t mean to sell McLouth short.. he’s a good player.. just not someone that is going to carry them (in my mind) .. they needed to replace the HR power from years ago

I just saw they called up Tommy Hanson too, not sure how I missed that news

Hanson is starting vs. the Brewers on Saturday.. these two moves make the Braves a whole lot better

I think that McLouth is a solid upgrade for that team… that raised an eyebrow.

Rollins needs to step up… I think that he will. He has been better (taking better swings and making solid connection). I don’t think that we need to rush into any trades. The only teams looking for pitching are the Mets and… Buehler? We need a solid #2 but we don’t need to act desperate… in this economy, those struggling teams that are caught sitting on big contracts need to act more than we do.
