A few things to point out:

1. Hawpe made the ASG.
2. Werth is a deserving All-Star.
3. Kemp is a deserving All-Star.
4. Sandoval is a deserving All-Star.
5. Victorino is not a deserving All-Star.
6. Howard is not a deserving All-Star.
7. Howard has a 120 OPS+ for a 1B. That is atrocious for a 1B. To put that in perspective, Shane Victorino has a 119 OPS+. He has been a better hitter this year than Ryan Howard once you take Shane’s speed and positional advantage into account. How sad. Ryan Howard isn’t that good…I don’t know how none of you see that. Sandoval is having a monstrous year. I have no idea why Manuel took Howard over Sandoval.

I understand all the arguments about Sandoval and Kemp and whatnot, but that’s the luxury of winning/being in the World Series. Charlie knows he can take the criticism and his players get the emotional and confidence bump from being first time all stars(Vic and Werth) and playing in their home town (Howard). If he thinks that this will jump start them (which it looks like Vic is responding) then he has that right as the National League Pennant winner. Good on him. Everybody jumped all over Maddon for not taking Pena when he could have, and Charlie did not miss that chance. Not to mention that as a pinch hitter Werth is about as dangerous as anyone else. He has 4 straight games with home runs and has the most since June 20 of anyone in the league.

Jayson Werth deserved this. I called it yesterday. The Phillies have some of the premiere players in the National League, and now we’re forcing the rest of the country to take us seriously.

Charlies is very selfish. All phillies outfield in all star team.The Rockies’ Brad Hawpe should replace carlos beltran. people don’t want to watch so many phillies players in all star.
According to MLB, any injured starter will be replaced by the top vote-getter on the player ballot who’s not a starter. The Rockies’ Brad Hawpe received 394 votes, more than the D-backs’ Justin Upton’s 277 and the 156 received by the Astros’ Hunter Pence.

Manuel has once again showed why the MLB allstar game is a joke. First Howard, who shouldn’t have made the team [sorry, he's not better than sandoval thus far], then Vic [who certainly isn't better than sandoval] now Werth!!! Kemp shouldve made the team, so should Sandoval. Werth Vic and Howard are all very good players, but if Manuel wasn’t the manager Howard and Werth wouldn’t have made the team, and Vic certainly didn’t belong over just about everyone who was up for fan voting for the last spot, especially Sandoval. The allstar game is a big joke. Does anyone [even Phils fans] really think that the Phils have 3 of the best 7 OF? I’m sure some of you do because your incapable of being objective, but fair is fair. Sandoval deserves it over Howard who deserves it over Kemp who deserves it over Werth who deserves it over Vic. What a joke

I dont want homefield advantage for the world series to be honest. i do not like the system 2-3-2. if you can split the first two games, you then have home field. in other sports where it is 2-2-1-1-1 that is a different story. i like the idea of having those 3 games in row at home, and it worked out last year.

I love how is calls Ryan Howard a piece of trash. This is a man that single handed pulled us into the playoffs last year. This is a man that has hit more homers the fastest in the majors. This is a man that won a Rookie of the Year award then a MVP award. This is a man that has a ring around his finger. This is a man that lost a ton of weight and learned how to play first base. Have you seen his approvment this year at the bag. Night and day from years past. Yes Howard strikes out and yes he can swing at bad pitches. Did you notice he stopped hitting homers when Raul got hurt. He had no protection in the lineup which will change tonight. He has been hitting the ball very hard. He gets crappy pitches to hit. Outside of Albert or even Gonzo this is the man I want on my team. He is a great player, a great person and a fan fav. Shut up and let him do his job. Sorry for ranting guys.

If we need a backup catcher, then why not bring Marson up now. He proved that he can play and hit. Bako isn’t going to suddenly improve because Coste is now out of the picture. I’m hoping this is the start of something good as we head to the trading deadline. I’ll stick to my previous comment, if Amaro messes this up, he’ll be up for Idiot of the Year.

Come October, if the Phillies are on the road for games 1 & 2 for the WS then they have no one to blame but themselves (poor NL pitching aside). I don’t like the idea of home field being decided by the all-star game, but it will be a kick having those 5 in St. Louis knowing they are playing to host the Series opener. Regardless, not having home field advantage last year worked out!

Also, I just read Erin Andrews was hit by a foul ball at the Mets game last night. Just another reason to hate the Mets!

I think that there is more too this, too… I think that Coste had a falling out with someone because the Bako move didn’t make sense, him not getting AB’s didn’t make sense and this doesn’t make much sense.

Does that mean that Mayberry is here to stay?

i watch them all and know that bako sucks. But maybe you are right.

Coste at least could get a hit. Bruntlett and Bako can not.

We have a catcher for every inning of the playoffs. His name is carlos ruiz. Id rather have coste on the bench than backo.

Does anybody actually watch the games? Bako has already started 5 games and is in the lineup tonight and Coste hasn’t been behind the plate since June 17th. Maybe something happened between the pitching staff and Coste and they did not want him behind the plate anymore.

Youre really that mad about this/ Chris Coste SUCKS. HE was sitting there as a RH bench bat for weeks with almost NO pt. what did you expect? Bako is a way better defensive catcher than Coste, but a hideous hitter.
