American League (36-41-2) at National League (41-36-2)

Gametime: 8:00 p.m on FOX at Busch Stadium.

NL Lineup: Hanley Ramirez (SS)/ Chase Utley (2B)/ Albert Pujols (1B)/ Braun (RF)/ Raul Ibanez (LF)/ David Wright (3B)/ Shane Victorino (CF)/ Yadier Molina (C)/ Tim Lincecum (P).

AL Lineup: Ichiro Suzuki (RF)/Derek Jeter (SS)/ Joe Mauer (C)/ Mark Teixeira (1B)/ Jason Bay (LF)/ Josh Hamilton (CF)/ Michael Young (3B)/Aaron Hill (2B)/Roy Halladay (P).

Many of the best players in baseball meet up for the 80th Mid-Summer Classic! Charlie Manuel will be coaching the National League. Phillies managers are 5-0 all time in All Star Games. Manuel will look to make it 6-0 and stop the American League’s streak of 11 consecutive wins (plus one tie).

There are five Phillies on the NL roster; starters Chase Utley, Raul Ibanez, Shane Victorino, and reserves Ryan Howard and Jayson Werth. The last time the Phillies had five All Stars was in 1995.

Why is the NL absolutely as UN-clutch as humanly possible in these games!!!!

Werth still might get his chance to be the hero but I feel like the NL could be no more un-clutch then they end up being in these games

manny- i think though lefty/lefty is a good route, the odds are better if the batter has never seen the pitcher…howard has probably seen Fuentes since he was on the Rockies and I don’t think Howard’s seen Nathan since we haven’t played the twins (i think) in howard’s time

Good point, j reed.. but now a guy like Fuentes won’t get to pitch at all!… Neither will Wakefield and probably a couple more….

At this point, and i don’t usually subscribe to psychology so readily, but its got to be nerves…Too bad the leagues’ best player Prince Albert really cost us

Manny- I would have loved to seen the league’s last knuckleballer throw tonight but it is home field advantage in the WS and so in the late innings they don’t mess around with getting everyone playing time.

What an incredibly dull and boring game.

Damn. All Charlie has to show from this moonlighting experience as manager of the NL All-Stars is a World Champions ring.

    “I’ll allow it.”

Unfortuantely the play of three players, potenial play off opponents lost the game for us….(billingslley LA, Pujolis STL, Lincecum SF (giants as wild card)) Now I get to spend all night with heartburn.

Well, last time we lost this game it worked pretty well for us!! hehe

And the MVP award to Crawford is well-deserved…

Oh, did anyone realize that the ONLY 3 the NL managed to score in the whole game came off ROY HOLLADAY!!? hahaa TRADE THE WHOLE FARM NOW, DO IT DO IT!!!

Bud Selig is a turd. First off Bell gave up the run to lose. He wont be near the playoffs. Jones got the winning rbi and he wont be near the playoffs. So why do we have the team that wins gets home field. Its an exibition game you slime bag bud. Im glad to see Ryan showed the world the pitch he always strikes out on. Good job

I feel like I just watched the Phillies lose a big game…its amazing what changes when you know what it’s like to make the world series. Bummer

J-reed- Lincecum gave them 2 opportunities to get out of the inning. First Wright makes a bad throw then the almighty God himself Pujols commits an error. So the baseball gods struck and Lincecum gave up the hit the next pitch! Thats what always happens

Manny- here’s the hitch….last year if the series had gone back to tampa it would have been in front of a crowd 1] with fans who had days before had to have baseball explained to them by the local newspaper and 2] a crowd with phillies fans it. As Bobby said earlier, assuming Boston gets in and by the looks of it will, that means 4 games at Fenway….I couldn’t imagine a worse scenario.

J Reed- I’m saying it’s more on Wright then Lincecum! You said Lincecum choked when he really didn’t

DJ- sorry i got cut off…I guess i harshed on Lincecum…I’m just pissed that if we make it pass the Dodgers we’ll probably have to play at Fenway and besides I hate the AL

actually Lincicum allowed the first two guys on before anyone else made a mistake and he was missing every pitch up in the zone…he was clearly nervous and he definitely F’ed up.

DJ- Although, had Lincecum made it to first in time…not sure if it would have made a big difference but i thought him being a little late to cover first base delayed the throw from Pujolis. ( i think that’s how it played out….don’t remember if this scored a run.)

Nervous he was but after the first 2 batters every hit was on the ground and very playable. Now Lincecum did run to the bag but Josh Hamilton was right on him so Hanley Ramirez didn’t want to throw it. Joe Buck said he wasn’t covering but recanted when he saw Hamilton right behind him.

I think for the NL to win, esp. since it means home field advantage for the WS, NL managers have to stop appeasing fans and play the best match-ups possible. I guess out of repect for Torre Manuel pitched Billingsley another righty although I thought, since the AL line-up seemed lefty- heavy, a left-handed pitcher might have been better but only if said lefty hadn’t been seen by the AL batters.

I Think the thing that got me is Ryan Franklin is a Allstar how, is he another Madson and we didn’t see it

The Phillies are amazing on the road we all know this; this home field advantage crap does not faze me one bit. Personally I would love to take the series at Fenway and show up all those Sox fans. They have the killer rotation and we have the killer lineup; it would be a great, well-matched series. My grandmom is the biggest Sox fan you could ever meet and she stated to me that if we get Halladay that the Sox and the rest of the league had “better watch out for the Phils.” I know getting him is a bit of a stretch, but if we get it done I will feel much more confident in our chances of a repeat.

Using the all-star game to determine home field advantage is one of the most asinine things in the history of sports. It is an exhibition game and is only slightly more important than a spring training game. If the Phillies meet the Red Sox in the WS this year, they will be at a decided disadvantage.

Franklin wanted to be a starter when he was with us. He was an average pitcher for us just as he was throughout his career. Something clicked in St. Louis for him late in his career. This year he is nasty.
