New York Mets (39-39) at Philadelphia Phillies (39-37)
Livan Hernandez (5-3, 4.04 ERA) vs. Rodrigo Lopez (5-4, 3.91 ERA in AAA)
Time: 7:05 p.m at Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Partly Cloudy, 80

Tonight, the rivalry is renewed in a big series for both teams. The Phillies look to turn around their struggles and stay in first place in the National League East. The Mets are only one game out, and they could find themselves in first if the Phillies continue to struggle at home.
Rogrigo Lopez will start against the Mets. With the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, Lopez has been inconsistent in his last ten starts. He has only given up one earned run his the last 14 innings he has pitched, however it has been a pattern that after he has success, he struggles in his next start. On the plus side, he has not walked many batters or given up many home runs. In his Major League career, Lopez is 65-65 with a 4.80 ERA.
Hernandez is 10-8 with a 3.36 in 24 career starts against the Phillies. At Citizens Bank Park, Hernandez is 2-2 with a 5.45 ERA. Chase Utley is 8-for-24 in his career against Hernandez. Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard each have homered off Hernandez twice in their careers.

This game is not over. With Rodrigo pitching. Luckily for Phillies fans the Mets are the biggest bunch of losers in sports. Amateur or professional/ Male or female sports / team or individual sports included.

Believe me, Phillies fans – this Mets team you’re witnessing tonight is the real New York Mets ball club without Reyes, Delgado, Beltran, Putz, etc. I’m glad that I didn’t make the trip out to Philadelphia for the weekend I feel badly for those Mets fans in attendance tonight- simply put, it must be embarrassing.
Nonetheless, it’s still July – thank goodness!

The radio just made a good point: how do you go to the plate with a pitcher you’ve never seen before and swing at the first pitch?

@Geoff: it’s only the 4th inning, they’re certainly not going to take out the catcher yet. But they shouldn’t have played Bako in the first place.

David you need to talk to the other mets fans in here because you are 1 of only 2 that speak intelligently and have a clue
Dam Dobbs I was singing your praises earlier oh well better now than if we were in a tight game at that moment Now it is Bako time lol

that is too bad would have been nice to score some runs there, but like I said it would hurt worse in a tight game I have faith that this will not be one, but you never know, we need Lopez to get through 5 unscathed (is that even a word)

why would you take your back-up catcher out of game he’s spot starting when your 7 runs up? Makes no tactical sense

i wish they would have left hernandez in so the phillies would have crushed him even more!! 7 runs is still good enough though!

86 pitches through six and thanks Tracey, had to go upstairs for a while, I was going to come back and be sarcastic and say the following
UH-OH two innings with out a run and JRoll didn’t get a hit they are slumping all over again, where is Geoff tell ing how bad this team is,
I crack myself up

Howard and Lopez only two phillies with a hit, and Ryan has walked twice so that is good enough, make them throw pitches you can hit, even though he is hitless tonight, I like his approach, and up 7-0 you can get agressive
by the Tracey do you get to many games,

sbd- not only was it two innings without a run and J-Roll didn’t get a hit but Bako’s still in the game, we still have Bruntlett on the roster and we haven’t traded for two elite starting pitchers since the game began… Panic mode necessary!

NJ you need to calm down I am not saying they do not need pitching help but Lopez is throwing a fine game so far, and they last few games their at bats up and down the line up have been better so be a little positive please

sbs- the above was meant to echo your post with sarcasm. I’m in the minority that think the Phils have enough on the roster/in the system to do as well as their going to do this year.
Great game, Lopez has surely earned himself another start, credit to the guy.

Our anemic offense and lack of good starting pitching is becoming an ominous problem. Mind you, the Phillies are about to knock the Mets back under .500, guys. The Mets are a sub .500 ball club! THAT’S a telling statistic!
The best news of the evening is that Church is hitting the ball the other way well and Pat Misch pitched very well tonight – maybe Jerry should have had the perspicacity to put him in instead of Livan tonight. Hah!
At least we won’t get shut out tonight by a guy who hasn’t pitched in the Major’s since 2007. Then again, he could be the Phillies’ Fernando Nieve, no?
I’m curious to see if the Mets have the drive to fight back, regardless of their five run deficit.
