Don’t think enough fans realise how commanding the Phils lead in the division actually is because of the issues this year. Back to 10 games over .500 and assuming the Marlins win tonight that’s a 4 game lead WITH four games in hand, if the Braves win that’s 5 up with 2 in hand…

As far as I see it the Phils are in as good a position to mount a challenge to repeat as could be reasonably expected.

@NJ, it’s easy, the ownership purposely runs it like a minor league franchise to make additional money from revenue sharing. They will never be good under their current ownership – all the yinzers understand this and find solace in the Steelers and Penguins…

I don’t get how the Bucs can’t build a real ballclub with that stadium in that city with these players… Sad Sad excuse for an organisation. Feel sorry for some of these players not to mention the fans.

I’d love to see the Phils add a guy like Halladay but I’m not trading Happ or Drabek for anyone. As much as a guy like that can help and the unlikelyhood Happ will be a perennial sub 3 ERA guy, I have confidence he’s going to give you 30+ strong quality starts in the middle of the rotation and I don’t know why you’d even entertain the idea of trading a guy like Drabek when you look around at all this young electric pitching.

As much as Halladay gives as close as there is to a win 1 out of 5 games I think this team is capable of either winning with close to what it has, or won’t win at all. All those tasty prospects make for a hell of a second batch and gives you a reason to think maybe we do give a guy like Howard a big deal. A window of opportunity only exists in baseball for teams incapable of creating a workable model that constantly develops talent. Do the Phils have it? Not sure, but I see the makings.

I wish we could keep Happ and just bring up Drabek but I understand thats a lot of pressure for a young kid.

Happ pitched less than 50 innings last year and in 2007, but I think he was on the roster for more than 45 days which disqualifies him from rookie status.

I am a huge Happ fan. It’s going to get interesting over the next few weeks with his name in the headlines.

You guys are all correct, Happ looks great and its good to see someone who can consistently get to the 7th inning or beyond. Even Cole hasnt been that guy. Happ has been so important.

well Happ’s secondary stuff is coming around…as long as he keeps his fastball down, he’s got enough stuff to keep batters honest. i’d hate to see him go, but i think for an upper tier arm he’s gonna be in the deal
