Gameday 2009, Posts
Cincinnati Reds (40-40) at Philadelphia Phillies (42-37)
Johnny Cueto (8-4, 2.69 ERA) vs. Cole Hamels (4-5, 4.98 ERA)
Time: 7:05 p.m at Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Sunny, 83
TV: Comcast Sportsnet
Twitter: Phillies Nation
The Phillies need to carry their momentum from the last series into the next. The Phillies will send out their ace, hoping he’ll be the ace he once was.
Cole Hamels has struggled in his last five starts, going 0-3 with a 6.18 ERA. However, Hamels loves facing the Cincinnati Reds. Hamels is 4-0 with 1.25 ERA and 0.94 WHIP against the Reds. In 36 innings, Reds hitters are batting .154 against him and struck out 37 times.
Johnny Cueto, who has recently had back problems, lost to the Phillies earlier in the year. He gave up four earned runs in seven innings, including a home run to Ryan Howard. Despite his back trouble, he pitched six shutout innings in his last start against Arizona.
Your Gameday Beer: Philadelphia Walt Wit
In honor of this weekend’s sweep at home and the beautiful weather we’re experiencing, we’re going with a summery Belgian White (Witbier) brewed by the Philadelphia Brewing Company. This hazy golden beer is currently on tap at the Grey Lodge. Walt Wit is brewed with fewer hops than most beers along with herbs which give it a musty scent with citrus and spice flavors. Of course it’s named after the Walt Whitman Bridge. Enough with the burgers and hot dogs, eat some shellfish with this one. -By Brian
GO PHILLIES!

Ok guys, we got a game with the Red tonight. And that only means one thing. Bad news for the Reds!

Cole really needs to be Cole tonight especially since historically he pitches well against them. Hopefully some of the positive stuff from this weekend will carry over. Would like to see some runs scored in the first so he does not feel like he has to shut these guys out. Any word on line up tonight, Carlos catching.
I get the right left thing, and Chooch in a little slump at the plate, but I really think he needs to play more ever against right handed pitchers. Hopefull I will be out of work soon enough to watch the first couple of innings on DVR but catch up to real time b;y the 7 or 8th.

I dont know what J-Roll has been eating the last 4 days, but he better keep eating it. Maybe hes back. I got into a debate last week about the importance of a walk, someone was saying how un important a walk is. Well while we would all love to have a homer in place of walk, J-Roll is the lead off hitter and supposed to get on base. In this particular instance, he didnt get a hit, but a walk put him on base which made this a 2-0 game rather than 1-0. YES a walk is just as important as a single. Great to see J-Roll starting to get on base again, Victorino does better as well, so when J-Roll looks good, Shane looks even better. VOTE SHANE!

Very nice. And yet the point of a walk being just as important proven yet again, Werth hit a single, puts him in the same place as a walk, sadly Utley struck out on ball 4 (so it was said earlier), had he walked, it would be 5-0. Dont get my wrong, I am DEFINATELY NOT annoyed at 4-0 rather 5-0 in the bottom of the 1st inning, just stating the importance of a walk.

Is this really happening? seriously, or have I been dreaming the last 4 days? We havent been able to win a game for anything at home besides against the Nats, and now we Sweep the mets (AWESOME) and we are having a great day SO FAR against the Reds. The game is NOT over, as we saw the O’s come back massively in the 8th and 9th last week against the Sox, but wow. Someone pinch me.

Real nice start should Cole some confidence to pitch his game, and not try and strike everyone out. This will do wonders for his confidence if he can pitch well maybe get him back on track
I love this game

lol Georgie girl…If it weren’t for the 4 BBQ’s this weekend,I’d be looking for the nearest ledge to jump off. No,not grumpy tonite because a day off tomorrow and going to see the Cyclones…the ONLY Mets based team in NY that has a clue how to win.Nope, not going to CitiField either until the NY M*A*S*H learn fundamentals and how to play baseball and ESPECIALLY how to catch a ball.

Ok Utley, redeem yourself. At least Howard made contact last time, Utley struck out. Single scores at least one buddy. Lets go.

Well this isnt just a good thing for today, but if we can really tee off on these guys today and get them to use their bullpen today, we can tire out the bullpen for the rest of the series.
