Gameday 2009, Posts
Cincinnati Reds (40-40) at Philadelphia Phillies (42-37)
Johnny Cueto (8-4, 2.69 ERA) vs. Cole Hamels (4-5, 4.98 ERA)
Time: 7:05 p.m at Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Sunny, 83
TV: Comcast Sportsnet
Twitter: Phillies Nation
The Phillies need to carry their momentum from the last series into the next. The Phillies will send out their ace, hoping he’ll be the ace he once was.
Cole Hamels has struggled in his last five starts, going 0-3 with a 6.18 ERA. However, Hamels loves facing the Cincinnati Reds. Hamels is 4-0 with 1.25 ERA and 0.94 WHIP against the Reds. In 36 innings, Reds hitters are batting .154 against him and struck out 37 times.
Johnny Cueto, who has recently had back problems, lost to the Phillies earlier in the year. He gave up four earned runs in seven innings, including a home run to Ryan Howard. Despite his back trouble, he pitched six shutout innings in his last start against Arizona.
Your Gameday Beer: Philadelphia Walt Wit
In honor of this weekend’s sweep at home and the beautiful weather we’re experiencing, we’re going with a summery Belgian White (Witbier) brewed by the Philadelphia Brewing Company. This hazy golden beer is currently on tap at the Grey Lodge. Walt Wit is brewed with fewer hops than most beers along with herbs which give it a musty scent with citrus and spice flavors. Of course it’s named after the Walt Whitman Bridge. Enough with the burgers and hot dogs, eat some shellfish with this one. -By Brian

I love the Phils, but I feel bad for the Reds. Talk about embarrassment. They do need a mercy rule.

PhillsyaHeard, I think Cholly did the right thing by taking out some of the mainstay All Stars on the team. Its not like he kept all the starters in, he took Utley and Howard out early.

Grumpy- he ya go:
Robert McKimson directed a duo of delightful cartoons featuing the baby elephant, Bobo, who first appeared in 1947′s “Hobo Bobo”. In this cartoon, Bobo is in India dreaming about going to America to play baseball in the circus, instead of his boring job he has carrying logs. Bobo tries to sneak aboard a ship, but without much success, until he takes the advice of the Mynah Bird (from the Inki cartoons), and paints himself pink because “after all, no one will admit to seeing a pink elephant”. He finally makes his way to the big city where a street cleaning truck washes the pink paint off Bobo. He goes to court and the judge sentences him to life in the circus, as part of the elephant baseball team! Unfortunately, he’s made bat boy, given the job similar to what he had back in India! Bobo comments: “Bat Boy Shmat Boy! I’m still carrying logs!”.
Bobo didn’t re-appear until 1954′s “Gone Batty”. This short’s story is similar to that of a Friz Freleng’s cartoon “Baseball Bugs”. In it the Sweetwater Snooks, a baseball team of skinny gentlemen, is losing horribly to the big tough thugs that make up the opposite team: the Greenville Goons. The manager decides to call in Bobo, the team mascot, to play. In the end, the Snooks win, and a reporter exclaims how amazing the baseball playing elephant was, the manager adds “Not only that, but he works for peanuts!”.

The Mets did handle Prince Albert though. Dodgers line-up is a lot better though.

Why are Phillies fans voting for Sandoval? There are already 2 really good 3b’s and the NL needs and outfielder. I just don’t get it

OK,Now I have a troll/Secret Admirer using my Moniker? lol I do agree Amazins did handle The big A and I don’t mean Anabolic like Manny being Manny, probably the Only thing Omar did right is not signing Manny and his dog and Pony show.I can never picture myself or any Mets fan using Manny being Manny.

That was awesome ,but I feel bad for the Reds. Also Dj, The N.L. needs an outfielder and they should be voting for Shane ,but Pablo is having such a good season. His numbers are better then Shanes.

TheBigRedP- Actually if you look at their numbers
Sandoval- .333 avg, 93 h, 12 hrs, 44 rbi’s, 38 xbh, 39 r, 3 sb and 3 e’s
Victorino – .308 avg, 99 h, 6 hrs, 39 rbi’s, 34 xbh, 60 r, 13 sb and 1 e
Even Phillies fans over look Vic’s value

Even if his hitting numbers are better than Shane the NL has a lot of hitting power, they could really use the defensive power Shane brings to the outfield.

I agree and if Jimmy hadn’t been slumping so bad and ending rallies Vic would have more rbi’s

I like Sandoval, but I’m voting Shane all the way. We need outfielders, especially with Rauuuuul and Beltran as question marks. We’ll need an extra OF if the NL wants to win this. And Shane just had an amazing night… VOTE SHANE!

Sandoval- on base %: .388 slugging: .566= .954 ops
Victorino- on base %: .363 slugging: .447= .810 ops
I still think he is having a better season

But I agree, The N.L. just needs an outfielder. Even the backups are not great.

What did Sandoval bat against the AL during interleague? Vic .400 and thts against the so-called best division in baseball. Everyone is in love with home runs. What lead-off type hitter does the NL have on that roster?

Another question, what are Sandoval’s defensive numbers compared to Victorino? Quit posting offensive numbers, post defensive numbers! They need defense, like stated, the NL already has a TON of power bats they are weak at defense right now. So the voting should be based off the best defensive player, which, I am confident, is Vic.

Vic does have 45 more at bats than sandoval, so obiousvly he has more power than Vic (Vic is NOT a power hitter), but that could have something to do with his career high numbers. Less at bats can often lead to a high batting average.

Wonder Kid just hit a grand slam to help his case, but keep voting SHANE

Shane has a better fielding percentage and has only committed 1 error, Sandoval has 3. Yea I saw that but he is still fresh and the league will catch on to him now

Beltran has to get replaced cuz he’s injured so even if Victorino doesn’t win the poll he should get in that way

All of the runs are fantastic but as I have seen many times in the past, the Phils often have trouble scoring runs the in the next game after getting a good number of runs the day before.

Ab machines vary greatly in price but although most are normally under the hundred dollars, it does not automatically reflect how good the machine is. For the average person wanting to get started they should look at the AB Slide or Torso Track II which do the job, are cost effective, movable and easy to store. Most machines enhance regular exercise and gym regimes but what you need to investigate before paying out the money is what muscles they actually work on. If they do not tone up both the ab muscles and the oblique’s then do not buy that machine because you cannot obtain the ultimate six pack if you do not work on these muscles.
