Gameday 2009, Posts
Cincinnati Reds (41-42) at Philadelphia Phillies (44-38)
Micah Owings (6-8, 4.48 ERA) vs. Jamie Moyer (7-6, 5.72 ERA)
Time: 7:05 p.m at Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Partly Cloudy, 75
TV: Comcast Sportsnet
Twitter: Phillies Nation
Jamie Moyer takes the hill tonight against the Reds. In his last three starts, Moyer is 3-0 with a 3.11 earned run average. Moyer faced the Reds earlier this season and gave up three runs over six innings.
Micah Owings will start for Cincinnati. He is 2-1 with a 4.13 ERA in his career against the Phillies. He was rocked in his last start against the Phillies; five earned runs in three innings. Chase Utley is 5-for-10 with a home run and Greg Dobbs has two career home runs against Owings.
The Phillies have scored only six runs since their 22 run outburst. With Moyer on the mound, three runs may not cut it. They have a good chance against Owings, but run support is key for Moyer. With a win, the Phillies will take 3 of 4 from the Reds.
Tonight’s lineup: Rollins (SS)/Victorino (CF)/ Utley (2B)/ Howard (1B)/ Werth (RF)/ Dobbs (LF)/ Feliz (3B) /Ruiz (C)/ Moyer (P)
Your Gameday Beer: Kalik. This is the King of Beers in the Bahamas. The brew was d
esigned by Heineken for the Commonwealth Brewery based on the tastes of the islanders. As you can imagine, it has all the qualities of an ice-cold Bud or Corona – fizzy, yellow, and way too easy to drink on a hot summer day. Fortunately you can find the beer in America and even at some supermarkets. Make some fancy mac-n-cheese with ham or bacon in it. -By Brian

LOL Todd. That’s great, I missed it.
Stupid shift cost us a 1,2,3 inning right there. Hopefully it doesn’t cost us any runs.

The phillies are the only team that does better against good pitchers like Cueto and Harrang than against a skell like Micah Owings.

Shane has speed, I gues it wasnt that deep. Looks like they will get out of this inning no scars, but its good to give a little scare in the first inning. We did however score quite a few runs in the first game with 2 outs. Lets hope for a repeat. Id love to see Moyer get another win!

Dear baseball gods,
Please do not punish our Phils, and thus us Phans, for leaving them loaded again. They just do that, you know? Please. I beg you.

There they go again with the bases loaded. I wish Jason could drive one when we need it. Thats how we lost the other night. Put a nail early in this team.

Man why does it seem that VIC, Utley and Howard are always left on base?

Well at least we are taking walks and getting some hits. True we didnt do anything, but we still got 1 hit and 2 walks. Hopefully it will translate to runs later for us and not for them!

And it begins
0-2 with RISP.
Good to see Howard get a walk, though.

I’m about to shoot someone, I am having to watch the Fox Sports Ohio broadcast of this game and I can’t take these Reds commentators much more…I’ve dealt with them the past 3 games, but they’re on here complaining about how Victorino got all his votes from 3 guys voting nonstop and more or less didn’t deserve it, and how flawed this system of voting is, etc. Time for the TV to go on mute I guess.

That’s how baseball goes, Brian. Leave them loaded, that always gives the other team a boost. And I know that Wheels said that, but I already knew that. I didn’t know anything about liberty bell socks, though. Thanks Wheels!

Come on Jaime, you strike the pitcher out. Down 3-0 to a horrible horrible horrible horrible baseball team. Look at that lineup. My god they ARE HORRIBLE

I’ve been saying it all year Jaime pitches 1 win-able outing and then has 2 horrible outings where he can go 4 to 5 innings at the most! ALA last year in the playoffs NLDS and NLCS didnt get out the 3rd inning in both starts but throws a gem in the world series

Brian, chill dude. He was 3-0 in the his last 3 starts with an ERA under 4, I had a feeling this would happen. Whats your excuse for Hamels? Hes been lit up just as much.

Brian, the Reds aren’t that bad a lineup. Another bat, they could really d something.
How is it he did way better against the top of the lineup then the bottom two-thirds?

Brian, Micah Owings isn’t your typical hitting pitcher, though. Owings can swing a stick and he’s got pop. Not making excuses for Moyer, but Owings doesn’t swing the stick like a #9 hitter.

Brian you can’t view Owings as a normal pitcher. He’s not Hank Aaron but he can at least put the ball in play when he wants. The real problem is the fact that it should at LEAST be 3-1 right now and instead it feels like we are down 10 runs since we couldn’t score in the first. Damn.

Owings blows. We better score some runs off of him. It’s like hanger central out there. I just don’t see anything he does that looks at all effective.

How do you say the Reds are not a bad lineup. Take out depression Votto and they are aweful. We should again do what we want with this team. Just like the Dodgers are doing to the Mutts.

DJ, what youve been saying all along hasnt happened. He had 2 HORRIBLE outings against the Mets and the Dodgers, The last loss he had he was left in past the 7th inning, gave up a HR well after 100 pitches. Charlie doesnt like to leave Hamels in after 100 pitches why would he leave Moyer in there. FYI, Reds are not a Horrible horrible horrible team, they are mere mediocre, and have stretches of looking good. Same reason they beat the Cardinals.

Bad lineup is those Devil Rays of old. Bad lineup is the Mutts. They aren’t as bad as the two of them.
And these dramatized commercials really bug me.

The same Dodgers team that lost to the Mutts last night also. This is not all a pitchers problem this series. 2 days ago, bases loaded no outs. Thats a real problem.

Here’s the latest word on the phils and halladay. With the scout who watched the game when happ pitched. The blue jays are asking for happ, and are covering guys like knapp and d. Brown. Whig is way to much to give up. If you want the whole story type in phillies trade rumors on google and it should be there. I’m on my phone so can’t give you the direct link.

Brian you say take out Votto and they are horrible? Im not sure I see that, considering they have 2 players hitting OVER .320. EVERYONE except for two over .240, its more like take out Encarnacion and and Janish they are a very good team. Might want to look at everyone on that team. FYI Janish still has a better batting average then J-Roll (though hes J-Roll has been better lately) and Encarnacion still has a better average than Bruntlett.

FYI 6-1 Dodgers over the Mutts in the top of the 2nd inning.

Dobbs again first pitch swinging with the bases loaded, that 3 times and he deserves a seat on the bench for this crap. Wow at what point does he get taken to the woodshed for this…so what if Owings has been throwing first pitch strikes. Serious failure on the part of the coaches as it is obvious the players are not policing themselves. If doing this three times within a couple of games doesn’t constitute a pattern of stupidity then I don’t know what does. As such, is it really too much for Thiompson or even Charlie to tell Dobbs to not to take such a selfish AB. This is just to Montessori for me. Its as if he’s thinking that when such lunacy pays off with either a grand slam or a base clearing double, he and his strategy will be redeemed. I can’t help wondering how Bowa would react to this…Maybe the first time he holds his tongue, the second time, the dugout looks a tornado touched down, third time, if it ever got that far would mean dead Dobbs.
