Ryan Howard fell short in the semi-finals of the 2009 State Farm Home Run Derby.
Howard’s seven bombs in the first round were enough to advance him to the second round. Howard hit eight in the semi-finals, increasing his total to 15. However, Prince Fielder and Nelson Cruz edged Howard.
Howard’s longest shot measured at 445 feet. Fielder won the competition with six homers in the final round.

Now lets see Prince Fielder totally suck in the 2nd half.
Interesting stat last night, 7 of the 8 Home Run Derby constestants from last year had a lower home run total in the 2nd half of 2008.

The contest put me to sleep. Josh the cocaine Hamilton made it fun. These homers were boring.

Agreed. This contest just doesnt do it for me. i was hoping Howard would not advance so that I could switch it off. Watching one swing in every 5 pitches is ridiculous.
To make it more interesting and take much less time, let a pitching machine throw 10 pitches to each. It would be over in less than an hour. Or let them use aluminum bats.
