UPDATE (4:07 p.m): Andy Martino reports (via Twitter) that Ibanez will not be playing at Reading tonight for pre-cautionary reasons. Even though there are no setbacks, it is unlikely he will return this weekend, but should be able to start rehabbing tomorrow.

Raul Ibanez is scheduled to make his first rehab appearance tonight at Double-A Reading. He will play five innings. Ibanez could come off the disabled list this weekend, however Charlie Manuel said he would like to see Ibanez get eight to ten at-bats before returning.
Scott Eyre is also scheduled to pitch an inning at Reading for a rehab assignment. Eyre was supposed to pitch last night with the Gulf Coast Phillies, but the game was rained out.

Rodrigo Lopez is your Friday Night starter, via Zolecki (twitter).
We can all put aside our wishes for Carrasco.

Via Todd Zolecki on Twitter: “The Phillies have RHP Rodrigo Lopez starting Friday night against the Mets at Citizens Bank Park. That’s a no-go for Carrasco or Carpenter.”

The Phils really don’t have a lot of faith in Carrasco.

Oh come on! The Phils probably don’t feel Carrasco has had enough development to promote him to the majors yet, people may think he’s been around for ages but he’s still a kid who insiders say has great stuff but is still learning to pitch. Lopez might be a useful guy, he might struggle through the start but it’s one game and the Phils don’t know what they have at their disposal until giving a couple of the guys they’ve signed a chance.
Geoff you need to grow up, your posts just make you look like an idiot.

Maybe if we sweep the Mutts this weekend we can convince them that they should be sellers and they will give us Johan. He is way too good for that team to begin with. Btw, Lopez is a righty. It will be strange to see another righty out there besides Country. The pressure will be on because we need that game on Friday in the worst way. Need to kick the Mets while they are down and win some damn games at home.

I don’t think its clear why Ibanez isn’t playing. Is this a precautionary thing, or is he sore still?

I don’t think this is about the Phillies not having faith in Carrasco… it’s just that they probably want him to stick in the rotation for good once he makes his debut. Also, imagine if he gets shelled on Friday, he’d lose a lot of trade value and, possibly, no longer be officially considered as our top pitching prospect.

Just in case anybody is curious as to how Eyre’s recovery is going, he gave up a homer to the first guy he faced tonight.
