Comcast Sportsnet reported that John Mayberry Jr. and Steven Register were optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, making room for Cliff Lee and Ben Francisco.
Mayberry hit .167 with three home runs in 30 at-bats. Register allowed one run in two innings out of the Phillies bullpen.

No surprise here….. The big surprise is what will happen once JC, Clay & Durbin return.
I’ve been thinking too, we were all so worried about giving up Happ in a deal for Roy Boy. Now that we have Cliff Lee (AKA another lefty) wouldn’t a deal for Halladay centered around Happ be ideal at this point. If we could pull off a deal with the BJ’s for say Happ, Dom Brown & and one or two of like a Joe Savery, Vance Worley, Johan Flande or Andrew Carpenter would that not pretty much guarantee us another title.
I feel Happ is very much expendable at this point. It would be great to offset his left arm with Halladay’s right arm. We can afford to lose Dom Brown because we have Michael Taylor and Anthony Gose still and we would not miss any of those other four arms, especially if we are celebrating another championship or two.
Thoughts?
Or am I just crazy, gluttonous, and overzealous?
GO PHILS!!

I’d trade Happ for Jesus. He may not be able to hit a curve ball, but he can throw one.

well Romero will be back soon, he’ll replace Walker.

I understand why it was Mayberry sent down and not Bruntlett.
But, seriously, Bruntlett is horrific.
Damion Easley is old enough to be Kelly Dugan’s father, and I’d take him over Bruntlett.

Mayberry needs more seasoning. The acquisition of Francisco allows the a lot more flexability in the lineup, especially after some 14 straight games. I looked forward to watching him play tonight.

Keith, I honestly think if the Phils had the money and thought they could get Halladay for Happ, Taylor, and 2 prospects not named Brown or Drabek they’d do it.

Forget Halladay, way too much $$$$$
I just went through the Phillies spreadsheet and the club with Lee and Halladay and no Happ would already be at 122.5 million not counting
Park
Victorino
Blanton
Eyre
Ruiz
Condry
Durbin

If Bruntlett plays for 100 years maybe he can get as many homers as Mayberry has.

Next to go will be Rodrigo Lopez when Pedro Martinez joins the Phillies by the end of next week.
It does raise the question on whether it will be Happ or Martinez as 5th starter in rotation with the other going to the bullpen. According to pitching coach, Dubee, Martinez deserves a spot in rotation because of his fame and experience.
However, I personally think Martinez will be on a limited pitch count as they monitor his arm strength against major league hitters. Therefore, he may yet start out in the bullpen and Happ gets a bit of reprieve as he stays in rotation.
