Pedro’s First Start Cut Short

Pedro Martinez’s first minor league rehab appearance was cut short due to inclement weather.  Martinez pitched 1.1 innings for the Clearwater Threshers.  A downpour halted play against the St. Lucie Mets.

After a half hour rain delay to start the game, Martinez hit a batter and allowed a hit in a 20 pitch first inning.  He struck out a batter and threw 14 of 24 pitches for strikes.  He hit about 87-91 on the radar gun.  He had very good command and his changeup remains impressive.

The Phillies asked Martinez to finish his pitches, so he threw about 50 pitches in a simulated game afterwards.

The Threshers led 2-0 before the game was called.

Who needs Pedro? We have Rodrigo!

Ditto! Unless Pedro can give us 6 innings of 1 or 2-run ball every time… Lopez has been really good… all quality starts from our 5th starter….

Seriously, right now (as of today) Moyer is the weakest link in the rotation but he’s going nowhere.

Rodrigo Lopez?? In his last start, he gave up 10 hits in 6 innings… 4R, (3 earned), 2K… he’s going to allow teams to put up crooked numbers. 10 hits is problematic… I don’t see they guy helping this team down the stretch. I don’t see Moyer being part of the playoff rotation, either… but he’ll be a part of this rotation until the end.

    Hamels, TRADE PIECE, Blanton, Happ/Martinez…

Seriously, though……how much more can you really expect to get from your 5th starter? I have MORE faith in Lopez right now than I do in Moyer….who’s the #4.

Actually, Jeff of Nova….that’s exactly where I see him ending up when it’s all said and done….in the bullpen. An effective Pedro is a HUGE upgrade over Durbin. Thnk about it. Pedro in the pen, giving you an inning or three a few times a week for about two months is a great return for $1 mil.

    Chuck I agree totally.

I would rather see Drabek or Carrasco in the 5th spot over Pedro, cause I am not sure he is in starter shape for a team in the hunt for a WS
