After a long rain delay, Kyle Drabek and Yohan Flande were able to get into some action during the 2009 Futures Game.
Drabek pitched a 1-2-3 second inning against the World Futures. He struck out one batter. His fastball clocked as high as 96 mph and his curveball was impressive. He threw 10 pitches, 7 for strikes.
Flande got two easy outs on a strikeout and ground-out to start the second inning. Then, he allowed two straight singles, but escaped the jam by striking out Danny Espinosa.
The World Futures rallied in the final inning to win, 7-5.

Drabek looked like a stud and a probable ace in the future for us if we dont trade him. Flande looks raw but really talented. Im going to see Taylor at the eastern leauge all star game at trentons. Hes going to be in the homerun derby and game.

gotta think this year is that World Series MVP hangover for Cole… Beckett had it, and a few others..
but saying we hang on to Haap and Drabek…
Cole, Haap, Drabek…
thats youth and talent and a hell of a rotation

We have to keep drabek and happ this could be the makings of something great for the city. With a core of marson, utley, howard, brown and taylor, victornio we are in good shape for years to come. Depth guys like Donald, Savery are key to a long run of being good.

I briefly watched last year’s All Stars Futures Game on ESPN, and we had Carrasco opening that game, plus Donald and Marson also playing.
Just makes you realize how good these guys are… they’re the best prospects out there and we should hang on to them if we want to see our Phillies win in a few years.

Flande is like Fabio Castro. He could make the majors as LOOGY.
Drabek looked like a man amongst boys.
I am torn about trading for Halladay, I keep going back and forth. I don’t envy Amaro.

Can you imagine if amao can pull off this deal for Halladay without trading Happ or Drabek. We’re talking Halladay, Hamels, Blanton, Drabek and Happ. WOW.
I’m getting closer to offering a little too much like
Brown, Knapp, Donald, Carasco and like a kendrick

Can we all agree that any deal we make should not include Drabek!
I say have him replace Lopez and give him a shot at the prize. There really is not much more he can do in the farm, he has been dominant at all levels.

Why would you trade a 21 year old that is projected as a 1 or 2 who the organization has invested a lot of time in with the TJ recovery, for a 32 year old probably only playing here for a year and half

Well I dont think we have to worry. Amaro and Manuel both said bottom line that Drabek is not going to be traded under any circumstances. End of story. If it means they cant get Hallday then so be it. You dont trade someone who will be a potential staff ace for years for your team for someone (while great in his own right) will only be here for a year and a half with all probability. It doesnt make any sense. Oh, and he would be making rookie salary as opposed to like 16M per year.

I think that Toronto knows that they dont have many options to deal Halladay. I think theyll trade him for less than we think or theyll hang onto him. There are other starting pitching options out there for the Phillies to go out and get at a lesser and more manageable price who will still be solid contributers.

You know, the more I think about it, the less I like the Halladay trade. This is a hot or cold team. If they hit the playoffs and they go cold, they could have a staff of Santana, Halladay, Sabathia and Hamels and still lose the series. If they’re hot, I wonder whether they need a Halladay-type pitcher and given the role that chance is going to play in them winning another WS, I don’t want to give up the future.

Drabek won’t get the nod this year unless it comes in september..
they’ll have him spend some time in AAA first..
he’s owning every level he is at, so they’ll have him go to AAA…and i’m sure he’ll own that too.
if they sign Pedro, and he doesnt work out, i could see Kyle coming up
I doubt a Halladay trade happens…
they want Drabek, and he isnt going any where except CBP

We are in the driver’s seat… we can get it done without Drabek. With three top 25 prospects, there is no team involved that is able to offer what we can…
If Amaro can get it done without Happ/Drabek, he should be given a medal. A deal centered around Carrasco/Knapp and Taylor/Brown might be better than any other team has to offer but they know that those players aren’t in our future (that is, we have other guys that are better). I would think that it would have to be really tough for Toronto to part ways with a future HOF’er for guys that are going to have a tough time making our roster.

After watching Drabek yesterday, no way should we trade him. He looked aewsome. Flande is a LOOGY at best, not impressed.
If they can trade for Halladay w/o Happ/Drabek then fine. Otherwise lets go with what we got.

I know many are skeptical about this, but I think the Phils, should sign Pedro, and bring up Drabek and let this group with Moyer and Pedro’s experience roll to the playoffs.
If Pedro wants to be here and is solid his experience along with Moyer’s guidance could really help Hamels, Happ and a Drabek.
Let’s forget send all the farm pieces for a year and a half of Halladay and use our own.
trade for a bench player or 2 thats what we need
