3 phillies in the starting lineup? Not bad at all

Why not start Howard over Pujols and Werth over Braun?? It’s not like Howard isn’t the best 1b ever, and Werth is certainly better than Braun [because they are phillies and the phillies are the best] Charlie, you really dropped the ball on not getting ALL phillies players on the team and into the starting lineup. I thought you were going to be a big homer for all of your beloved phillies fans, but alas, you only went 95% homer. And your explanations are so insightful and almost understandable to the normal person [I grew up in rural, redneck, country bumpkin america so i can understand you Chahlee] What a joke

Wow David take your negativity somewhere else. Victorino is by far the best candidate to play CF. The rest of the OF backups are corner outfielders. Therefore Victorino is the best option to play CF defensively. This was not about homerism but more about a baseball decision. Cholly wants to win this game, he wants home field advantage this year. Stop being so negative and picking apart every decision he makes.

Wow… talk about bitter. Get over yourself. If you don’t like his selections, than win the pennant. Pretty simple really.

Manuel didn’t pick Werth, you ass.
And really, why wouldn’t he pick Howard? Use your head.

With the exception of Yadier Molina, this is an absolutely SICK lineup.
This is how I’d set it up:
1. Hanley
2. Victorino
3. Utley
4. Pujols
5. Rauuul
6. Braun
7. Wright
8. Molina
9. Lincecum

David, the other players were voted in by the fans so Charlie had no other choice. He picked Victorino because Beltran is out.

I’m not totally sold on Braun, but the lineup is ridiculous. I don’t see how anyone can can complain to much until the game is over. If the NL win’s Manual did a good job, if not then we can second guess him.
Bottom line, defense can be the deciding factor, which in my opinion is vastly overlooked in the All Star game for whatever reason.

@Chris, I didnt say that Charlie picked Werth. I said that he might as well have STARTED him over Braun. However, Manuel did pick Werth as an injury replacement for Beltran. Know what you’re talking about before calling someone an ass. And why not take Howard? Really? He is hitting .251 with an OBP of .322 and he is the 4th first baseman taken. The team didn’t need a 4th first baseman and Charlie shouldve taken a more deserving Sandoval at 3b where there are only 2 3b. And don’t quote me home runs and rbi’s. I get it, Howard hits home runs or strikes out and thats about it. He hits in a great lineup in an even better hitters park. He should put up good power numbers. But Sandoval was more deserving, and I’m sure your aware that I’m not the only person who thinks so. So maybe you should “use your head” instead of your heart and look at the numbers and the fact that the team already had 3 more deserving 1b. Didnt need a 4th

If the Phillies traded for Roy Halladay today, who would Charlie start Lincecum or Halladay?

David,

Don’t be so bitter about the Fatty from Frisco not getting picked. So what if he is hitting .333 with 15 hr and 55 rbi. The guy is probably the west coast version of Kyle Kendrick. I’m so tired of people whining about Sandoval. If he played for the WFC or if the people of SF would have voted him in, maybe this wouldn’t be a problem.
As far as I’m concerned he’s a young kid putting up good numbers halfway through his first real big league season. He can join a long list of ballplayers that had a great first half of the baseball season early in their career and didn’t make the ASG.

@MJ, if it was a phillies player putting up those numbers and getting snubbed because the SF coach was picking his guys instead of the people who actually deserved to go, you’d be pissed too [as would the city of philadelphia]. And don’t give me the “if people in SF would have voted him in” crap. Some cities don’t have 2 million people. Places like San Fran and Pittsburgh and Milwakee have to fight up hill to get their players voted in over NY, Philly, Chicago. Sometimes you just can’t beat the big cities. How was Sandoval supposed to be voted in over Wright without some big collaboration between SF, Philly, and Atlanta fans all voting for him? The point is that the coach seeing that a deserving guy was left off, should have picked him instead of someone less deserving on his own team. But whats done is done and it isn’t going to change.

I stand corrected. I misread how Werth got in.

Sandoval is good… but Werth is better. His career is just warming up! He has more home runs this half than Sandoval has in his career. But Sandoval means more to the success of his team than Werth, so he may be more deserving to represent his city. He’s young and very talented, and he will make it eventually so no worries David.
