True, the Jays need to shed payroll so it comes down to who gives up the best prospects, IMO. I doubt this would force the Indians to blink on Lee, but it can’t hurt. I think they wait until next year though because their division ismuch more winnable next year.

I understand that our window is closing within the next two to three years, but a good system for any team should be to win a world series or two with every generation of young players(Howard, Hamels, Utley) mixed with players left over from the last generation(Burrell, Rollins, Myers). With this in mind, we have a good if not great opportunity to make this happen. With Drabek, Taylor, Brown and Knapp mixed with leftovers Utley, Hamels, Howard, and Rollins. This is how dynasties are constructed. Look at the mid-90′s yanks(Jeter, Posada, Rivera, Pettitte mixed with Tino, O’neill…etc.) We just won a WS with this team and added a great quality bat in Ibanez…yes we lost Myers, but just replace him with 2nd Tier starter….PLEASE DON’T SPEND THE FARM!!
It’s the first time in years that we have this type of talent down there…possibly the first time in our 130 year history!!!

Its easy to grin when a man’s ship comes in. I can’t but help smile to see that miles has piles. that he was looking at for a while. It makes so happy to know that the mets will come from behind and you all be crying even the Hawaiian that you say is flying. I worked hard on that song tell me if you like it I think it is catchy.

I see your point, Georgie… but getting CC Sabathia last year required just 1 top prospect (though a VERY prized one) and 3 other prospects. Of course, that was for half a year. So, thinking along those lines, 2 top prospects (and 2 or 3 others) “should” get Halladay and his 1.5 year contract.

Let’s not forget that the other team will be notably reducing payroll, while we’ll be adding over 20 million. So that needs to be taken into account as well.

OF- great depth but we can’t keep all of these guys: Vic, Werth, Brown, Taylor, Mayberry… there are only 3 spots in the OF. One of them has to go… would love to move (in order) Mayberry, Brown, Taylor, Werth… Vic/Taylor untouchable.

Ruiz is going to be here a long time (sign him LT… get it done)… Sorry, Lou… Marson/D’Arnaud

Infield: we don’t have much. Donald is bait but probably not worth much (where are those guys that said he was untouchable last year?)… move Donald or whoever else they might like

Our value is in our pitching prospects (in this order)… Carpenter, Worley, Savery, Kendrick, Bastardo (if not a starter, could be a very good closer…), Knapp, Flande, Drabek, Carrasco, Happ.

What about throwing in Myers’ exprining contract?

I would give up whatever they wanted minus anyone on the ML roster today! Almost all AL itchers that go to the NL kill it, ie Sabathia, Clemens and Randy Johnson. We would be the Favorites across the board especially with the lineup we have

The Brewers, Angels, and Dodgers have a legit shot at him. The Cubs don’t really have the minor league talent. The Mets have no shot at Halladay so you can let out a sigh of relief. The Braves might be able to let go of Hanson to get him but that would just make them retarded.

Who else besides the Phillies do you think have a legit shot at Halladay? I hate to break it to the Noreaster’s up there, but the Yanks and Sox have no chance b/c the Jays arent trading Halladay to their biggest rivals. You think the Mets would trade us Santana?

My guess is the Angels, Cubs, and Dodgers.

Wow… Happ, Taylor and Drabek might be too much (Happ/Carrasco or Drabek, not both). I think that we’re going to have to send them Taylor OR Brown… we have to remember that Halladay is a stud and it’s very likely that many of these guys won’t pan out. Is 1.5 years of Halladay worth four or five “could be the next…” prospects??

Richie good point…however… we are in a position to WIN another World Series. Halladay makes us a serious contender to repeat.

Now our farm may be good and keep us competative in the future but there’s no gauruntee. Like any sport you only have a small window where everything falls into place and you are a serious contender.

Keeping Marson/Donald Corrasco/Bastardo/Drabek may gauruntee that the phillies win 80-90 games for years to come but… when your talking about adding another Trophy to the case… its not them.. not now…

No prospect should be untouchable….if there is every a time to justify trading the farm its now… and we are talking about Halladay here.

I dont want to give up happ, drabek or marson. Drabek will be a stud. Maybe next year. Happ has been such a joy to watch. You get rid of happ you still have a big hole. They need a second tier pitcher that wont cost them the farm. We could get one. With this offense we dont need halliday.
