Gameday 2009, Posts
Colorado Rockies (59-48) at Philadelphia Phillies (60-45)
Aaron Cook (10-3, 3.88 ERA) vs. Cliff Lee (8-9, 3.02 ERA)
Time: 1:05 at Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Cloudy, 69
TV:Comcast Sportsnet, MLB Network
Twitter: Phillies Nation
Cliff Lee will be making his first start in front of the Phillies’ faithful. He has already earned support from the fans with a complete game in his last start. He has never faced any of the current Rockies hitters in his career, so the advantage is to him.
Lee will be opposed by the Rockies ace, Aaron Cook. Cook is a groundball pitcher, which will benefit him at Citizens Bank Park. He faced the Phillies in April and gave up three runs in six innings. Ryan Howard has Cook in his book. He is hitting .429 and has a home run against him.
Because it is a day game, and cooler, the ball probably will not fly out of the yard like it did last night. The Phillies will need to manufacture runs in a different way, and build consistency with the offense. A win today will win the series.

Your Gameday Beer- Isle of Arran Blonde Wheat
Nothing says summer like a Blonde Wheat. This one comes from a relatively new microbrewery on the Isle of Arran just off the coast of Scotland. It won the contest for best wheat beer in Britain the year after it opened. The wheat flavor is prominent in this beer, but there is also a tart fruitiness. Have it with some simply cooked grilled chicken. – By Brian
GO PHILLIES!

Francisco’s a pretty good player, he’d be in the starting outfield of a hell of a lot of teams around the league and is possibly the best all-around 4th outfielder in the game in Philly.

Yeah, sorry, I didn’t realize I had fallen so far behind! Considering the K #’s are decreasing in succession * would be the next total – and very feasible. Anyway, the moment has passed…

Marlins appear to be cooling off a bit. They are the most bi-polar team in the league.

Manny I think he has lost a ton of confidence in his change up ever since that Baltimore game. He hung two in a row and they killed them. I really think he’s afraid to throw it at a big spot.

The Marlins are definately falling apart right now. To blow yet another lead against the Nats would be devestating. A great time to go against them in the weekend.

The Phillies have had a few bad stretches. But for a majority of the year, they have played fairly well. The Marlins started off like 11-1, and then went like 5-19 or something crazy like that. They are currently trying to fight off being swept by the Nationals.

For some of you what Ryan Howard or Jimmy Rollins does will be never enough. Your hate surfaces no matter how much you try to hide it. Ryan gets an Rbi in 1st inn yesterday. “Wow, a hit w/risp.” If that was Chase Jason W or Raul. It’s good job. Way to go. Jimmy hits a 1 out 2r hr with a man on third. “Are u more surprised that he got a home run or that he got a runner in from third w/less than 2outs.” Wasn’t that the 3rd straight game he homered? “Ryan Howard is a goon.” The 1st time I critized Chase some of u went crazy. It wasn’t until I critized the entire lineup at the same time that the Chase worshiping racist Jroll/Howard bashers were ok with it. And yes you are a retard Ed. A racist retard. People like u and Jeff and others are cowards because you create “win-win” situations for yourselves. You bash JRoll and Howard. If they fail after that, the bashing continues. If they do well;it’s they got lucky or they can’t keep that up.If they substain it you praise them, but w/an eyerow raised. Stop it as you aren’t fooling anyone. The Phillies won the WS because of a great group of players from all other the planet. But when it’s people of color that fail; for some of you the hates comes out. Sad. Of course you’ll deny it. And you’ll use Howard’s stats today as confirmation for displaying your hate. Why? “Win-Win” Cowards.

At this point in the season, and with the Phillies where they are in the league, they just need to try to take 2 out of 3 from each series. I expect the same against the Marlins. But a sweep would be sweet.

Race has nothing to do with it. Howard is an over-hyped, one dimensional player. He gives poor at bats and so far this season, he has failed to show why he should be worth 15-18 million. Rollins is playing hard and playing well right now, so I won’t criticize, but statistically, Howard has little right to be the superstar everyone treats him like.

Brade Lidge! Two/three from Rockies. Now sweep the Fish, and separate the Contenders from the Dreamers.

Hey Brett, where we gonna find another 40+ homer guy? He may have some poor ABs but he can change any game with one swing.

Lee and Happ were incredible. They went up against the third best run scoring offense in the NL and limited them to just 1 run. That’s the pitching we need.

Great job by the Pen. Man, the Nats are on their 7th pitcher. Fish are 4 pitchers in.

Listen repeat!….I don’t know why you see the need to make such a big deal about this when we are about to win, but you obviously like your opinion a lot. I think that you are being very selective with what you read on here. I bash Werth constantly on here. Constantly. He drives me nuts with his bad at bats. But no one calls me a racist for only picking on him and not on Howard or Jimmy.
People get pissed at Howard cause they don’t like the strikeouts and Jimmy had a HORRIBLE start. What do you expect. I’m sure some fans are racist but there is no need to go on ridiculous rants. So stop.
Oh, Phils win, by the way.

We should have traded for Cliff Lee sooner. he is the best pitcher the Phillies have had in long time. It feels strange to actually feel confident about the Phillies starting pitching. First time in a while I have felt this way.

My problem with Howard is that he does not learn from his mistakes. Watching his at-bats is like watching Brian’s Song over and over again, and just thinking that eventually Brian is going to pull through. They are going to throw slider low and away, and Howard is going to swing. We all know that when he gets hot, he can carry the team. We have seen him doing it a few times. But somebody needs to work with him. When he first came into the majors he could hit .300. Now he can’t. He needs to work on it.

I have an idea, lets go on a rant, calling out someone they don’t even know. Proclaiming them to be a retard and a racist. I am curious as to what draws you to that conclusion? How do you know that I am a racist? I take it you assume I am white, and thus bash only J-Roll and Howard because they are black? How do you know I am white? You don’t. You assume it. So assuming I am white, and only bash blacks makes you what? An equal rights activist? Get over yourself please. I have commented about Moyer, Lidge, Werth and Hamels…last time I checked, all white. Race has nothing to do with this, though in your sad attempt to find something to argue with me about you pull race into it. Way to go. Thank you so much for showing us how evolved you are.
Oh and for the record, I am African American. My name is Edwin, but I go by Ed. Anything else you want to say there internet tough guy?

Brett…. Wrong. It’s not the ctr. of J-Roll, Ryan and this whole lineup drives us all crazy because they’re so inconsist. And the majority of Phillies Nation are fare and open minded. This is Philly not St. Louis. But it’s how you it. I went to the HK with my twin. As we walking passed HK’s Casket and up the 1st line to go take seat, some people whispered loud enough for us to hear “A Black guy and two of them, what are they doing here?” We couldn’t believe it. But we just ignored them. So don’t tell me this site doesn’t have some racist posters and some racists Phillies Fans.

Howard’s just like a wrecking ball it’s not pretty and picks up a hell of a lot of dents along the way but it’ll cause damage. The thing he needs to work on above all is being more of a threat in the heart of the line-up so Utley and Ibanez see better pitches to hit.

This site does have racist posters, and the Phillies do have racist fans. Just like every other website and every other team. Sadly racism still exists everywhere. So does ignorance.
