I have to agree with Ed R. on this one. I read through all the posts and didn’t see one even remotely racist comment. Repeat! your personal witch hunt is not appreciated by anyone. It is unnecessary and unfair of you to wrongly accuse and judge someone who didn’t do anything wrong. You may feel like it is your job to stand up against perceived racism and I commend you for that, but be fair about it. Do it right, don’t attack someone who didn’t do anything wrong. Let it go. You turned nothing into a giant showing about racism. It isn’t fair to anyone who visits this site and wants to talk baseball and instead has to see you verbally attacking someone. This is Phillies Nation, where we come to talk about the Phillies. If you can’t do that, then go somewhere else.

You took that statement and basically attributed that type of talk to all black’s. You went so far as to even attribute blacks to slavery. He was cheering for the Yanks like crazy in the 4th inning. He like me hope Boston misses the post season. After the blown Dobb’s walk-off; I don’t trust those umps in a World Series game in Philly/Fenway.

My theory is we remember every Ryan Howard at bat. Every one in the stadium and at home watching the game on TV stops what they’re doing to watch a Howard at-bat. When he delivers, we go “that’s our boy!”. But when he gets into a slump (as he has of late), they villify him. Even I go “aww, man. Come on!” when he stirkes out looking with RISP.

The thing is, the expectations of the fan are highest with Howard. As a consequence, we remember every at bat of his, and because of the baseball law of averages, we’re almost always going to end up dissapointed in some regard statistically when it comes to Howard at-bats. That doesn’t mean 27+ other teams in the league wouldn’t gladly have him in their line-up. He’s been so great, in such a short time span relatively speaking, and yet, the fans expect more.

Ryan Howard is the best home run hitter in the game during the last 4 years. that is not debatable. he’s an unbelievable cleanup hitter who is only surpassed by Pujols and maybe like 2 other guys. the people criticizing him are ridiculous and have incredibly short memories.

Repeat, I never said that some of the posts on this site didn’t cross the line, some of them do. I have on occasion made comments that went a little overboard, but never once has any of them been racist. However I am not going to call out everyone that makes a racist comment. That is for them to live with. Not me. But again, my comment was not racist. All I said Howard acted childish. I didn’t say he acted thuggish, or black, or ghetto or anything ridiculous like that did I?

When did this board become about politics? Last time I checked it was Phillies Nation, and their primary goal to my understanding is to provide a forum for Phillies fans to discuss the team they love. Whether they are black, white, yellow, pink or green.

Once again, I will repeat myself, not sure why because you clearly do not listen. But stop pretending like you know me and what I would say, stop putting words in my mouth. Here is a list of my comments made today before you called me out…exactly which one of them had a racist overtone? If anyone else feels like commenting that one of them is racist then please do so. But as far as I see it, Repeat you are the only one to think so.

The worst part about this is, I don’t even know why I am so offended by all this, or why I care that someone I don’t know is calling me a racist when I am not. I guess because I consider racist to be a dirty word and have never once been called a racist by anyone and then suddenly some guy comes on a Phillies Board and calls me out.

Did anyone else see the article, and I can’t remember where I saw it, but it said that the slider is the pitch that Howard is having the most SUCCESS hitting this year? I don’t recall if the article mentioned the location of the slider or not just that he was doing very well against it.

I am kind of hoping the Giants, Rockies and Dodgers beat the crap out of each other down the stretch with the Giants being left watching the playoffs from their couches. This thread is ridiculous… leave it alone.

As to your question, Brett… I think that it depends… It depends on the underlying situaiton surrounding the sweep. Sometimes teams get swept and they know that they’re better than they’ve played; they know that they have got something to prove. You rarely see a team sweep back to back series… but sometimes those teams are 2 out of 3 machines (like the Phils/Dodgers) and it doesn’t matter.

And sometimes a sweep can be dowright demoralizing… which is what I see going on.

The Marlins have to fly to Philadelphia knowing the Phillies are playing well and that they just got swept… that’s going to be a long quiet flight unless they start arguing… in either case, the Marlins know that they just lost to the best AAA team in the major leagues and guys aren’t feeling good about themselves. They got handled by the Nats and now find themselves 7 games behind heading to Philadelphia for a tough weekend series. I can’t imagine that team being too optimistic at this point… we take 2 out of 3.

confidence is a huge thing in this game… Happ has more confidence than a lot of pitchers with better stuff.. and so he performs better..

Ed is a “racist”??? I had no idea. When Juan Samuel was critcized for swinging at everything in sight his reply was “You gotta hit to get off the island” (San Pedro DM). Lots of latin players were and are free swingers. Does that make my comment racist? Or a comment based on socio-economic factors?
