Atlanta Braves (67-61) at Philadelphia Phillies (74-52)
Derek Lowe (12-8, 4.48 ERA) vs. Cliff Lee (12-9, 2.63 ERA)
Time: 7:05 p.m at Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Fair, 68
TV: MY PHL 17

Don’t be surprised if a pitcher’s duel breaks out tonight. With Derek Lowe and Cliff Lee on the mound, it’s probably going to be a low scoring game.
Lee will be aiming for his sixth win in as many starts with the Phillies. Since joining the Phillies, he is a perfect 5-0 with a 0.68 ERA. In 40 innings, he has struck out 39, walked six and hasn’t allowed a home run. So far it has been guaranteed as to the type of start Lee will provide: go deep into the game and dominate.
In two starts against the Phillies this season, Lowe is 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in 14 innings, including an eight inning shutout on Opening Night. Lowe has been streaky this season. He had a 6.13 ERA in an eight start stretch, followed by a 5-0, 2.91 ERA seven game run. Currently, he his in a cold spell allowing 20 hits in his last 8.2 innings.
For a change, the Phillies would like to get to Lowe. Lowe is 5-1 with a 2.64 ERA in his career against the Phillies. The offense is struggling and relying on the long ball, so it may not be easy for them to get to Lowe, a ground ball pitcher. But it isn’t going to be easy for the Braves to get to Lee either.
Your Gameday Beer – Michelob
Michelob Lager is brewed here in America by In-Bev’s Anheuser-Busch though it is named after a small town in a region of the Czech Republic known for its hops. That’s pretty much where the story begins and ends. As a pretty basic beer, it has a thin and watery consistency and flavor. There are hints of corn, maybe even citrus, but the bitter and sweet tastes are balanced. Have it with your favorite style of fried chicken. – By Brian

Great info on Lowe that I wasn’t aware of. Hopefully the Phils continue the hit parade against him via the long ball variety.

The Omar effect! He’s such a *uking gensis….Santana will never be the same….Thank you Omar! Redding…who gives a bleep….. I mean really. Maine…. What the bleep happened to this guy? Oh yeah , Maine is just another victim of the Mutts magical medical unit….. I’d spend more time on this, but it’s almost game time.

I have a feeling Lidge is going to be OK
Someone had to call the old man and say you cant use him 3 days in a row let alone 4.
Just a hunch.

re: the mutts
I havent been watching them or following them since they became a disgrace. But tuned in for todays game since it was the only game in town on fox. I do not like mccarver but I actually enjoyed him making fun of and ridiculing the mets today. It is a shame they are so bad that we havent been able to enjoy it as much.
They also said the Wilpons lost 700 million to Madoff and thats why they havent been buyers for a long time. Apparently the Wilpons will be looking to sell within the year. Thats actually bad for us if the Mess decided to get a competant GM and manager they could be formidable. They did have the second highest pay roll in the majors this year.

Those pitchers DOMINATE the Phils lineup.
Not just contain it.
In Lowe’s case it’s because they will nver change the approach-swing for the fences.
Usual result? Ground out-a-thon.

Agreed Repeat. Even though Jimmy didn’t get on base he battled and forced Lowe to throw pitches. Exactly what a lead off hitter should do.

Well, 40 pitches in the first three innings for Lee translates to 80 for six innings and approximately 120 for the complete game. Chances of seeing Lidge tonight for second game in a role? I place it at 50/50 unless Phils’ bats get some more runs on the board, then I think O’ Man will let Lee finish the game.

It’s not just Raul though. Shane has cooled off too, so has Jimmy. And then there is Pedro who really hasn’t done anything, and we also have Bako.

i’m not one that wants to believe raul was on PED’s but it is kinda strange he’s accused of possibly taking em,after that he goes on the DL and come off and has been a joke.

Well Lee was bound to get hit hard eventually. Kind of sucks its against the Braves but what are you gonna do? This one isn’t over but you can’t win them all.
Ok Diaz just hit a home run…now it’s over.

They need to take Bako’s lack of offense out and put Ruiz in. Let Lee pitch with Ruiz behind the plate for a few innings. I don’t like Bako as Lee’s personal catcher. He stinks. His lack of offense should not be acceptable.

Sorry Phillies fans. Not tonight. I agree Lee is a very good pitcher but really. Who has he beat so far. Terrible offenses. Now you go up against a much better team. 5 runs. I like the Phillies. They should of walked Diaz in that spot with a base open. Your closer is a mess. You guys cant score with runners on base. How many runs have you had in the last 6 games. You win the divison but will get knocked out. sorry…

Lee was due for a bad outing, even the best pitchers get roughed up every once in a while. The horrific offense remains the problem, they’re not helping the guy at all.
Home run or bust. Yet again.
