Atlanta Braves (68-61) at Philadelphia Phillies (74-53)

Last night, the Braves slugged their way to a victory against Cliff Lee and the Phillies. The Phillies offense needs to step it up in the rubber match game of the series.
The Curacao native has had himself a fine year with a 2.91 ERA and 1.26 WHIP. Against the Phillies this season, Jurrjens allowed only two earned runs in 19.2 innings. In his career against Philly, he is 3-2 with a 2.31 ERA. The Phillies cumulative lineup is batting .188 against him. It will not be easy for the offense to get back on track with Jurrjens on the mound.
Joe Blanton will get the start for the Phillies tonight. After a slow start, Blanton has been dominant since mid-May. Blanton was hurt by the long ball in his last start. He has given up 24 home runs this season. Blanton has struggled against the Braves. In 26 innings, he is 0-1 with a 6.58 ERA. The Braves lineup is collectively batting .313 against him.
If Blanton pitches the way he has of late and the offense can get back on track, manufacturing runs via small ball with runners in scoring position, the Phillies should be in good shape under the national spotlight.
GO PHILLIES!

@Greg: True, Eyre bailed Madson out of a scary situation. JRoll also had an amazing night of fielding.

Ruiz should be ashburn very game
for his defense and handling of the pitching staff
Just like Johnny Bench should have won 10 MVPS
And Mike Piazza sucks because he was terrible catcher.

@Joedad: Let’s not get cocky. Remember what happened to the Mets in 2007!

(wondering whether my last comment is awaiting moderation for the word “Mets” or for the other word …)

I agree NJ, anyone they bring up from the minors will hopefully be complimentary pieces but it does help to have a go to lefty specialist which they have in Eyre but not in Romero. We shall see.
Great win by the Phillies! Great job by Lidge! Can we all agree to never use Lidge back to back days again until the post season if need be? Clearly he does well when he has rest.
Anyone see highlights of the Giants and Rockies game? The Giants were fired up!

Andrew – my only qualm with Ruiz behind the plate is he can set up to earlier for low pitches on the corners or like Lidge’s last pitch, I felt ruiz telegraphed that slider when he got into low crouch squat well before lidge delivered the pitch
If Joe mauer doesn’t get the AL MVP MLB needs to revise their standards

Please never compare the bunch of the losers that are the <ets to this team. I was telling my NY friend in may that the mets were closer to the Nats than the phillies.
well the mutts are 17 games behnd us and only 13 in front of the nats.
Hopefully next year we will not have to hear abot the preseason rubbish about the biggest bunch of losers in athletics be a great team. But lets all hope Omar and Jerry keep thier jobs.

The Phils have scored more than 4 runs in a game exactly 1 time in the last 7 and are 4-3 during that same time frame.
If this is called a slump, man I’ll take it!
Soon, very soon, Chase will be hitting hrs with men on base again, Jason will put together one of those hot streaks, Jimmy, Shane and Ryan will all hit at the same time, in the same game… you gotta believe when that happens there will be havock along with lots of dust Phillies flying as the Phils smash there way to another NL crown..
