teejvee -I wonder how much pitch recognition can be taught ….its perception speed and speed in general is difficult to develop though I am not certain if it is as difficult to develop as something like arm speed, bat speed or sprinting speed all of which invovles increasing the of fast twitch muscle fibers in muscles that would be used…Even still he could learn how to guess better by knowing a pitcher’s tendencies….However the analytical approach is not something I see often from the Phillies.

i’m glad the game didn’t get postponed….we already have enough make-ups that were gonna have 3 double headers in a 47 game span… that’s why we really need an viable utility guy so our starters can get rest for possible post season play

the frustrating inconsistency of Howard continues. HE just got absolutey overmatched by two less than mediocre pitchers with the bases loaded. Let’s face it, he’s made little or no progress in 2 years. His pitch recognition is horrible.

so great to see moyer come in and contribute like that after all the uncertainty around him and his role with the team of late. there are a lot of games in not that many days down the stretch… they’re going to need every arm they’ve got.

Dave – has moyer ever pitched against the pirates….now Sanchez and Wilson are gone I wonder how he’d match up with them as the Pirates are another smal market team that smoked too much of the prospect pipe.

@miles – yeah If its not psychological and I’m not certain it is, then were in trouble as I don’t believe there is anyone in the organization who can fix Lidge’s mechanics because who ever is in charge of this has had more than enough time to do so…Hopefully things will work out but I feel like we’ll have to slug our way to another title at least this year anyway . Maybe Myers is the answer…I don’t know

Two things from tonight’s game:

1) Moyer should close for us. He couldn’t be worse than Lidge.

2) Howard sucks. What “slugger” can’t hit a high fastball? None. He has popped up every single one. Yes it is a very high popup, but still a popup. You can’t even argue that because the last one was on the warning track that it was well hit. They’re playing at home. The right field wall is like 3 feet away from home plate. How disappointing to see Howard suck this bad after having a good last game.
