Gameday 2009, Posts
Florida Marlins (57-53)
at Philadelphia Phillies (61-47)
Josh Johnson (10-2) vs. Jamie Moyer (10-8, 5.55 ERA)
Time: 1:35 p.m at Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Rain, 81
TV: MY PHL 17
Twitter: Phillies Nation
The Phillies need to avoid the sweep against the Florida Marlins. A loss would cut their lead in the division to just four games.
The offense has struggled, especially with runners in scoring position. It will not be an easy task against Josh Johnson. In his last start, Johnson had one bad inning against the Washington Nationals. He gave up four consecutive hits before recording an out and the Marlins ended up losing. Overall he has a 3.66 career ERA against the Phillies.
The Phillies have their fisherman, Jamie Moyer on the mound. Moyer pitched seven shutout innings against the Fish in July. While the rotation and Moyer’s future remains up in the air, Moyer is 13-2 with a 2.83 ERA against the Marlins in his career.

Your Gameday Beer- Old Dominion Beach House Golden Pilsner
We’re back in America for tonight’s beer, Dover, Delaware to be precise. It’s the perfect ending to a tour of European brews. It’s a Czech-style Pilsner that’s perfect for summer – hoppy, earthy character with citrus notes. Some fresh sushi goes well with this one. – By Brian

Ok boys, time to salvage this series and not be completely embarrassed in front of your loyal fans. Enough is enough. Time to start burying teams.

Pretty sure he would have been safe even if the throw was dead on.

Hey one thing Philly fans….”STOP COMPLAINING” about the Ump’s….its getting old and as for your so called guys who call the game on TV…TMAC Wheels And Sarge…..they have been warned from the MLB front office ..everything equals out in the end…..just look at last year when you were able to back in to the playoffs…..it all works out….oh by the way Howards throw was late ….ump got the call wrong…..but it will even out.

Did anyone else hear Wheels say “Against a tough pitcher like Johnson you really have to strap it on and go get it.” Does he ever listen to himself speak?
CMON Chase….time to pick it up!

Rachel Weisz, Michael Imperioli, Stanley Tucci, Wahlberg is ok. I actually think the young girl, Saoirse Ronan is a talented young actress. She was pretty good in City of Ember. Not a great film but ok.

Twostep…where did you hear that Sarge and Wheels were warned by the MLB Front office for anything?
And secondly, how did the Phillies back into the playoffs last year? They were 17-8 in September.

Well, they’re certainly making this pitcher work! That was his 15th pitch with only 3 batters so far.

Sarandon is ok. She never did it for me as an actress. She is good but not someone that I would go and see a movie over.

Please explain to me why Victorino was not at 2nd base after Utley’s sac fly? Must have been thinking about the UFC fights from last night.

@Ed: seriously, Victorino is our fastest runner; he should have been able to tag and get to second. But maybe he was playing it safe with only one out.

I’m more concerned about how Victorino got caught on that last play.

Well I don’t know about robbed of homers, not like the guys caught the ball’s above the wall or anything. They were both a few feet short. Was the wind blowing in because I thought Howard’s ball came off his bat so fast that it would carry out.

Did Uts and Howard’s hits come up short cause of the wind or just not hit hard enough?

I can’t believe that….if Howard hits that ball there another 100 times Hermida doesn’t make that play. Unbelievable. I’ll take the run but it definitely should/could have been more. Great at bats by our boys in that inning though.

Victorino was clearly not paying attention on those bases, either for not tagging up or for getting double off. Someone mentioned yesterday or the day before about how Victorino was not a smart baserunner. I honestly never realized it until I saw the proof right there. We should be looking at a runner at 3rd with two outs.

If your on first your rarely going to take a shot at going to second on the sac fly, if the runner tags up the throw will go to second which will beat the runner.
