Gameday 2009, Posts
Philadelphia Phillies (69-50) at New York Mets (57-65)
J.A Happ (9-2, 2.66 ERA) vs. Tim Redding (1-4, 6.53 ERA)
Time:7:25 p.m at Citi Field
Weather: Scattered T-Storms (40% chance of rain), 84
TV: MY PHL17
Twitter: Phillies Nation
As shown in game one of the four game series, the Mets aren’t a team to take lightly, even though they are 13.5 games out and depleted with injuries. It’s a true rivalry, and both teams want to beat each other.
The Phillies Nation crew took a bus trip to Citi Field with 250 of our closest friends. We bring the rain with us. During our bus trip to D.C, the game was shortened due to rain. At a game we attended at Citizens Bank Park, there was a rain delay. Now, it’s been raining most of the day in New York, with a chance of rain during game time. Let’s hope we can get this one in. The Phillies have enough double headers scheduled as it is.
Speaking of rain, Happ’s last start started two hours late because of it. In that outing against the Braves, Happ pitched 7.2 innings. He allowed three hits, but walked six. No Phillies starter has walked a batter since Happ on Sunday.
Happ will be opposed by Phillie-killer, Tim Redding. In the last two seasons, Redding is 3-1 with a 3.50 earned run average against the Phils. That ERA is high– he only had one bad outing against them. He has shut them out twice, including a one-hitter against them.
Your Gameday Beer- Schaefer
Today is not for messing around – we’re kicking it old school on the bus ride to New York. After World War 2, Schaefer was the main beer in the NYC area and if you’re old enough, you’ll remember its jingle, “Schaefer IS THE one beer to have when you’re having more than one…” Nowadays it’s owned by Pabst and has a similar classic American lager taste. Have a few hot dogs with it. – By Brian

It’s the 40 year anniversary of the ’69 WS Met championship team. Singing national anthem now so it should start soon.

Ok so Redding seems to do well against the Phillies, hopefully tonight is an exception. I have a feeling Raul comes to life tonight. You heard it here first.

It is amazin’ (no pun intended) that a guy that sucks this bad really does own the Phillies. This guy needs to go to the AL West.

nothing’s changed.
Wildly inconsistent offense getting dominated by Redding.
Amazing how they can go GAMES w/o a clutch hit.
Series all of a sudden looking VERY iffy/

Phillies will have a tough time trying to beat the Mets in the Met’s big ball park if they rely on the home run approach.

I love Feliz at the hot corner but this year has not been one of his better years. In fact, based on fielding percentage its the second worst of his career.
I wonder who is going to be the teams 3B next year?

I wasn’t here for 69,but that was One Thousand times better than last years Funeral at Shea.Even if you are a grissled Phillies fan and perrinial Mets hater, you had to enjoy the festivities that took place before the game.Even seeing the Phillies standing not only in the dugout, but to see Chan Ho,moyer and others go out there with others, shake hands and basically enjoy such a great moment that most can never forget. Was great to see the Express return in the Orange and Blue with the Franchise and the Kooz. This was one of the best moments in the young history of CitiField.Enjoy the game.Oh and BTW,the Mets served Rheingold as well as Schaeffer.

Are we honestly going to lose to the only guy who had an era higher than Jamie Moyer? Pathetic!!

What is up with the Phils and swinging at the first pitch; they have been doing that a lot lately.

Stan, I could not agree with you more! He is terrible and so is TMac. There is way too much chit chat and kissing up to the opposing team. There are now minimal play by play calls – neither of them have respect for the play by play. Hope they get Franzke and LA on tv next year.

Phils better start hitting. When a slug pitcher like Redding can quiet the bats, well, that’s really a shame. Let’s see some hits.
