Gameday 2009, Posts
Colorado Rockies (59-47) at Philadelphia Phillies (59-45)
Jorge De La Rosa (9-7, 4.68 ERA) vs. J.A Happ (7-2, 2.97 ERA)
Time: 7:05 at Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Mostly Cloudy, 85
TV:Comcast Sportsnet
Twitter: Phillies Nation
August hasn’t been friendly to the Phillies, who started the month 0-3.
The Phillies will send J.A Happ to the mound, in possibly his last start before being moved back to the bullpen. He survived spring training. He survived the trade deadline. Now he needs to survive and stay in the rotation. His performance tonight could further tell his destiny. Happ pitched 2.1 scoreless innings against the Rockies in April.
Jorge De La Rosa is improving as the season moves on. He set a franchise record for most consecutive wins, seven. He will look to extend that streak to eight, but he is 0-2 with a 8.79 career ERA against the Phillies. He gave up six earned runs in 3.2 innings at Citizens Bank Park. If there is a pitcher that can cure the Phillies bats, it is De La Rosa. But at the same time, De Rosa can pile up on strikeouts, something the Phillies do quite a bit.

Your Gameday Beer- Hopfenkonig
Probably more commonly known as Eggenberg Pils, these bottles have cool pull off caps. It’s a light and refreshing beer that I’ve been running into a lot lately. The flavor is not overwhelming, it’s crispy, balanced and lightly spiced. This and Prima Pils are two of my favorite Pils. Either one of those and some BBQ chicken pizza would be awesome. – By Brian

I swear Phillies Nation is saying stuff like this repetitively to get us all riled up!
Poor Happ… Even if he sucks tonight, he should remain in this rotation… moving him shouldn’t even be a possibility.
Our best starter’s spot in the rotation depends on this outing…. utter nonsense!!

At least we still have him. Its better that the worst place he could go would be the bullpen, instead of…Toronto.

Agreed. He isnt pitching for his spot on the team, he is pitching for his spot as a starter. I dont mind if he pitches in the Bullpen, as long as its OUR bullpen. The bullpen has had a rough time just like the rest of the pitching staff, so now at least you have another reliable arm in the pen. If this really affects him mentally is he really mentally strong enough for the Postseason? I dont think this will do anything to him. I think he is strong enough to do this, help us win, granted we pull out of this slump and win the NL East again, probably start in the Postseason.

Happ should just go up to Charlie and tell him that he’s a full-time starter, and he wants it to stay that way (ala Werth 2008).

Great recovery by Happ. Jamie Moyer could learn a lesson from that inning.

Allright……I will say this for J.A. Happ….he has NO business going out there to sing for his supper…..NONE!Happ has done the job and is a good quality starter.Pedro hasn’t earned a spot in the starting rotation shoild be handed to him because of his reputation? Well GENTLEMEN,if thats the case than the Phils should bring Steve Carlton,Nolan Ryan and Tom “The Franchise” Seaver or even Cy Young himself back because of THEIR reputation.I can’t believe the upper crust is even debating this.Happ has EARNED his spot plain and simple…Give’em hell Happ.

Yeah, our MOST CONSISTENT STARTER getting sent to the bullpen. If they do this, they are SERIOUSLY jeopardizing their chances at repeating. Wha tthe F are they doing?

Don’t hit the panic button. It’s talk at this point. Pedro might wind up in the pen.

You put Happ in the Pen….thats gonna kill his confidence level. You are gonna take Happ out and plug somebody in the rotation who hasn’t pitched in almost a year and ran out of gas in the WBC is silly at best and will fall flat on their faces.I liked Pedro from afar and in a Mets jersey…..but like good careers, all good things must come to an end.I will tip my Mets cap and salute Pedro if he does good, but this is a bad risk unless he’s bullpen help.

Are you more surprised that Jimmy hit the home run, or that he got a hit with a man on 3rd and two outs?

I concur. There is no way Happ should be pitching for his job right now. He has been the best starting pitcher on the team not name Cliff Lee.

Great job by Happ in the 3rd inning! Whew, imagine if Moyer was in that situation. lol. He’d probably let em’ hit a homer in that last at bat.

Anybody see the clip of the Met’s training staff today? That was some great work with Niese.
They should all be fired. Now I see what day-to-day means 5 months for the Mets.

I’d lose a lot of respect for Moyer if he sits back and allows for Happ to be forced into the pen.

3-1 Nats over fish in the bottom of the 3rd with Lannan pitching. Long way to go with Lannan at 56 pitches already.

Pedro sucks. He should not be in this rotation. He can stay in the minors all I care. Phills are gonna have like 3 5 inning pitchers.

I will die a Mets fan and have a Mets cap and jersey in my casket when my bag of bones gets buried. Now that said….from soup to nuts, top to bottom, all around the town….The Mets should clean house.I lost a bunch of RESPECT in David Wright as a “Team Leader” today for being punked out in an obvious retaliation pitch for hitting Pujols…….you have nothing to lose, get a bloody bare knuckle brawl going on.what would wrights punishment have been,2 games? Lol the season is a lost cause, whats 2 games?Cmon,if that happened to Howard….FIREWORKS at the Vault. That debacle with Niese today should kill Manuel and the coaching staff. What every Mets fan now needs is a Nats 20 game winning streak.I am not complaining, but when is enough ENOUGH?

The thing with Niese is one of the worst things I have ever seen on a baseball field. It is so hard to watch.
What happened with David Wright today? I have never understood the love of him. There have been rival players who I hated, but respected. Tom Glavine, Chipper Jones and a lot of those Braves players from the late 90′s come to mind. But there is a such a love fest for David Wright. I just don’t see why people love him so much. I like that he disappears in september.
