Colorado Rockies (59-47) at Philadelphia Phillies (59-45)
Jorge De La Rosa (9-7, 4.68 ERA) vs. J.A Happ (7-2, 2.97 ERA)
Time: 7:05 at Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Mostly Cloudy, 85

August hasn’t been friendly to the Phillies, who started the month 0-3.
The Phillies will send J.A Happ to the mound, in possibly his last start before being moved back to the bullpen. He survived spring training. He survived the trade deadline. Now he needs to survive and stay in the rotation. His performance tonight could further tell his destiny. Happ pitched 2.1 scoreless innings against the Rockies in April.
Jorge De La Rosa is improving as the season moves on. He set a franchise record for most consecutive wins, seven. He will look to extend that streak to eight, but he is 0-2 with a 8.79 career ERA against the Phillies. He gave up six earned runs in 3.2 innings at Citizens Bank Park. If there is a pitcher that can cure the Phillies bats, it is De La Rosa. But at the same time, De Rosa can pile up on strikeouts, something the Phillies do quite a bit.

Your Gameday Beer- Hopfenkonig
Probably more commonly known as Eggenberg Pils, these bottles have cool pull off caps. It’s a light and refreshing beer that I’ve been running into a lot lately. The flavor is not overwhelming, it’s crispy, balanced and lightly spiced. This and Prima Pils are two of my favorite Pils. Either one of those and some BBQ chicken pizza would be awesome. – By Brian

Moyer as a back-up for Pedro. Otherwise, keep him in the pen.
Love Moyer as a guy, but he’s not getting it done this year (minus against Florida).
This is a NO BRAINER. Of course, the Phils will probably put Happ in the pen.
Stupid. Let the kid pitch – he’s on a tear this year. Even his last loss was only two runs (and three hits?). Moyer gives up 5 runs per game before the 4th inning in just about every start.
I don’t care that Moyer sucks in the pen – Moyer sucks this year period without the offense bailing him out.

127 pitches. His next start should be interesting.
What was Pedro’s final line?

JA Happ rules!! i agree that he has to stay in the starting rotation. It’s obvious, Moyer gets taken out of the starting rotation and Happ stays in the rotation. Who cares if Moyer supposedly doesnt do an amazing job in the bullpen. Just put him in the bullpen so Happ can pitch 8 innings to get the game to 7-0 and moyer can maybe let in a few runs to 7-2. Oh well. Better than the other way around. Its about wins.

Yeah forget all the media hype. JA Happ isnt going anywhere. They have to suck it up and admit that they made a mistake giving Moyer that contract, and thats what a lot of that media talk was really about. They havent wanted to admit that they made a mistake there and now theyre forced to. Ja Happ has left them with no choice.

>I know 4 on the bench is short, but who do you get rid of in the pen? Durbin, Erye, Moyer?
Durbin.

Grumpy,
The reason why it is being debated, is cause the management committed to Moyer as a starter, with a good amount of money invested in him. Basically this is a matter of money being paid vs what is best for the team.
This may be interesting before it all gets settled

WOW, Happ was still throwing 93 after 120 pitches. He’s a pure starter.

I could see a fake injury to Moyer popping up after the Florida series.

Moyer also didn’t have too bad of a July for a 5th starter. At this point I still think Pedro should have to prove more. IMO, he was acquired as insurance. No need to cash in on the policy at this time. Let him build up some more endurance.
The Phils signed Pedro when nobody else would. With Blantan, Lee and Happ eating innings the pen will be OK until management is positive Pedro is back.

Can someone please tell me why you all have this confidence in Pedro improving greatly on what Jamie has done. I’m not gonna argue that Jamie has been highly effective, because he hasn’t. But he does have ten wins, and he does an ERA that’s just over 4 in his last 6 starts or so. Pedro has given up 8 or 9 combined runs in two MINOR LEAGUE games and has obviously tired out after 5 since he starts giving up runs. Why are you all so ready to throw this guy in there? I’m not….I need to see more.

Just a thought. Happ being in the pen early on may have preserved his arm for the stretch run and playoffs.

Jeff Va..I am aware of the Moyer pact. They signed him after riding the high of your World Fvcking Championship and the feel good story of growing up a Phillies fan.But the fact is the man is 45 and his future is limited at best.Happ stepping up the way he did all season, honestly did you expect Happ to be this good?Plus I can see and RAISE you one bad starter Pact…3 Yr/$36 Mil for Oliver Perez

Fish lose! Way to go Nats!
94 mph after 127, WOW!
6 games up. We can put some serious distance between us and the fish so there’s no need to panic. Keep the rotation intact. We have time.

Whats so funny is its all about happ. Trading him, bullpen, starting the season in the bullpen. He has done such a great job. Moyer is the worst pitcher on the team. If you take Happ out and replace him with Pedro you just hurt your team. now 4 and 5 are weak starters. happ is better then both. start pedro in the pen.

So Happ was pitching to stay in the rotation? Haha I guess that answers that silly question

JP Riccardi looks like an even bigger a$$. He never countered Happ, Taylor, Donald and Carrasco. Happ has a whopping 47 days of MLB service before this season. The Phils would’ve sweetend that deal too just to keep Drabek and Brown. Dumb, Dumb, Dumb. Good for us!

As far as I’m concerned it’s Pedro that has to earn a starter role.

Nova – unfortunately as awful as Bruntlett is at the plate he is the only guys we have to back up SS and 2B right now. He HAS to remain on the bench or at least someone has to be on the bench that can play those positions.

I can’t help but think back to that playoff game against the Rockies I was lucky enough to attend, back in October 2007. What might have been if the rookie named Happ was pitching instead of Kendrick….

CZ – i saw jamie carroll and eckstein could be available on waviers….I always thought eckstein or freel (if he could stay off the DL) are perfect fits for philly. I saw Carroll play for the Nats when I lived in DC he’s the swiss army knife of utility men in the field, is pretty clutch and might be cheaper than eckstein
