Story Changes For Myers

Brett Myers lied again. Myers’ rehab appearance on Saturday was pushed back because he had a swollen eye. Initially, Myers claimed that he injured his eye while playing catch with his 4 year old son. A day later, the story changed; he said that he fell out of his truck and landed face flat. Myers said he changed the story because he was “embarrassed” of the truth, but fessed up because he felt bad that he lied. However, according to sources, the real story is that he was punched in the face.
“He’s a grown man; I’d like to see him be a professional,” Charlie Manuel said. “At the same time, there’s not a whole lot I can do when he’s down in rehabbing and getting ready to pitch. When he’s [in Philadelphia], my concern becomes greater. I don’t want him to get in trouble.”
Myers was at a bar with his wife and friends, to see a band. An altercation broke out and witnesses originally said that Myers was not involved. The bartender said he served Myers three beers and that he looked perfectly healthy. Myers denies being in a physical altercation and police reports claim that Myers was only involved in a verbal dispute.
Myers, who is recovering from hip surgery, is scheduled for a rehab appearance in Clearwater on Thursday.

I bet there was a loud echo in the room when Myers got clocked in the head, because his head is hollow.

I could honestly care less if he was in a bar fight…it sounds like it was provoked. What I do have a problem with is the fact that he lied about it…twice! You have to know as a professional athlete the truth will eventually come out and lying about it can only make matters worse.

Maybe if the media didn’t make such a big deal out of EVERYTHING that happened surrounding Philadelphia (much less professional athletes) players Myers would be able to just admit what really happened. I don’t blame him for trying to make something up that the media won’t blow completely out of proportion and beat into the ground.

At least if he was going to lie, he should have come up with a good one that was at least believable. Instead he changes his tune twice, then the real story comes out. Oh, Brett.

You know, I used to be high on Myers and think he had all the talent in the world, and last year he showed a glimpse of that. But the reality of it is, he is a head case and a liar and honestly, I don’t want him back on the team. If he comes back, I’ll support him because he is on the team but I would be perfectly happy never to see him in a Phillies uniform again. I understand him being at a bar, you can’t stop that. I understand him defending himself, or his wife, hell I even get being punched in the face, thats just the breaks sometimes but to lie about it is completely ridiculous.
Josh Hamilton, the recovering alcoholic and drug addict had a relapse like 6 months ago. Pictures were taken of him with chicks and all drunked up. What did he do? He went home, told his wife, told the Rangers. And we just found out about it like a week ago and no sooner was it mentioned then it was forgotten. When are people going to figure out, just be honest and its all so much easier, for everyone. Way to stay classy Brett.

The most interesting detail from the link was that Jacksonville is 4 hours away from Clearwater. I had assumed they were not that far apart. The incident was reported to happen around 12:45 a.m. Game time was 1:00 pm. I guess Brett’s nanny drives fast. I applaud your professionalism Brett Myers.

What gets me is that Myers is 6’4″ and was an amateur boxer. What is he doing getting punched in the face by some floridian hillbilly? Leads me to believe that he wasn’t really in the fight, might have gotten hit trying not to fight.

I guess Amanda decided to typed this rumor to create feedback for her blog.
Critics of Myers will believe what they want to believe so long it fits their stereotyped image of him. Let’s stay with the facts, NOT rumors before passing judgment.
Myers is saying there’s no truth to his involvement in the rumored fight in a pub. I am willing to give him that benefit of a doubt.
What is a fact is the police in Jacksonville have confirmed that it wasn’t Myers pushing and shoving anybody in a pub.

This will ALL go away once Myers pitches for the Phillies andgets a save in a critical game or comes in and pitches 2 scoreless innings or whatever…..just like when Vick runs for 20 yards and wins a game for the Eagles….it will ALL go away..

Yeah Bruce is on point here…..
You can assume whatever you want, but doesn’t the fact that the official police report didn’t involve any kind of punches thrown at Brett suggest that he wasn’t involved? I don’t understand how the story changed at all…..
Even if he was involved, don’t you think he would have been taken into police custody if he had initiated a brawl or been a key player in it like everyone seems to believe? It seems like a good case of wrong place, wrong time to me. Now I also agree that he shouldn’t have been there in the first place, but that’s another issue to me.

Redon… You made a joke. So I made one. No one knows anything about any poster’s real life. It that really happened to your wife;there was no way in hell that I could’ve, should’ve or would’ve known that. Period. So if that did really happened. I sincerely apologize. I was almost murdered when I worked a bank during a gun robbery. I still don’t know how I got out of that situation alive. So once again, no one knows anything about anyone’s real lives on this board unless some of them know or has gotten to know any other posters.

I don’t think anyone really cares about this story. The only thing that makes it interesting is the fact that he lied multiple times.
What i don’t understand is that Myers says he is “fessing up” to what really happened. So…. what really happened???
I don’t see the explanation of what really happened. Ok, he was at a bar and got punched in the face. I think everyone assumed that as soon as they heard it. I’d like to get a more detailed explanation.

And to everyone else on this board… I know I joke around alot. But I seriously don’t mean any arm. But please don’t tell me I’m the only one. That committ I made about Redon.. was made sometime over the weekend. I had honestly forgotten all about it. Until I read Redon’s post. I forget actually what it was in response to. I guess I could go back and look it up, but that’s not the point. I would’ve never made that kind of joke if I knew what happened to you and your family Mr. Rond.

I don’t see how Myers is a bad person for this. I haven’t seen any evidnce that he was involved in a fight other than the bruise on his eye, which could easily been from falling out of his car. This article doesn’t even cite what sources say he was punched in the face.

Maybe since we all DON’T know about anyone’s personal lives on this site it would be a good idea to keep our posts respectful, tactful and tasteful. It’s no different than talking to people in real life…..we sometimes don’t know who we’re talking to and how our words may affect them.

I think the real story is not that Brett lied twice, but that Charlie Manual is willing to go on the record with his opinion that Myers is full of sh$%.
The article quotes Charlie Manuel as saying “I don’t believe any of it,”
with respect to Brett’s story. That quote alone makes the article more than a wild, unsubstantiated rumor and I think a link to the story is appropriate. Regardless of whether the rumor is true, Myers’ own manager is calling him a liar, and calling him unprofessional. Pretty interesting.

For those who are questioning if this is a rumor, the story was posted on Phillyburbs.com, by the the Bucks County Courier Times. I linked it to the story, so I did NOT make this up. The article with Myers denying the report was published before the “punch in face” article was published by Randy Miller.

The Courier-Times hasn’t cited their sources and have read their own ideas into the Charlie Manuel quote. It’s bad journalism, and even worse journalism to spread this kind of inflammatory garbage.
Whether Brett Myers is an idiot or not isn’t the issue, because he’s already proven that he is with his first account. But one cannot be saying he’s lied TWICE, when the actual facts (police reports, eyewitness accounts) say otherwise. Quit inciting venomous conclusions until something besides rumors actually surface.

Before we attack Myers here too much who exactly are these team sources? As part of Amanda’s post we see that the bartender said Myers was fine in the bar and the police did not cite any punches thrown in their report. Everything that has been officially stated by the authorities and the witness seem to go against him being punched in that bar.
Before we state that Myers is a liar lets wait until there is some real evidence of it. Personally I will go with the word of an identified person and the police than nebulous sources.

Why are people complaning so much about whether he lied? Ya know why he probably lied? Because he knows that nobody’s (like us) would bash him for it! Also, I highly doubt he was in a fight in a bar and no1 even has seen it. Maybe a slight scuffle and he got bumped, but not a fight.
Athletes that have a so-so reputation such as Myers are under a microscope all the time, especially in Philly. He more than likely did not lie to the team and to make it look like no big deal and not bring attention to himself (remember you people BASHED Moyer for this), he made up a white lie to stay out of the papers for the worng reason. BUt the media went ahead and dug deeper and deeper.
If this was some one like Blanton or Condrey or Madson, there would have been a reaction, such as “aww Shucks” or “tough break’. Instead, it was immediately… “hmmmm… I wonder who he fought?”
Move on and leave him alone and let him pitch!

Whether or not Brett got punched or slipped coming out of the car is irrelevant for me. And regardless of which story is true I still think Ruben and Charlie can not be happy with Brett. Hours before his appearance in the game he’s four hours away at a bar. How seriously is he taking his rehab. Until this happened I assumed the Phillies were thrilled with his rehab. All signs were he was rehabbing much quicker than expected.
But back in Philly we have an exciting pennant race, and one of the main story lines with the big club is the struggles that Brad Lidge is having, and the fact that Charlie feels he doesn’t have any other good option for closer. So just around the same time Brad imploded in Florida on Saturday, we had this Brett Myers incident – with all the drama involved in his lying to the Phillies. What horrible timing. If Charlie thought Brett might be an alternative down the road if Brad continues to struggle, now his timeline for getting to the bigs has been pushed back 5 days. Charlie can’t be thrilled about the timing. And now Brett has had to deal with the aftermath of the lying incident when he should be fully focused on his recovery.
When the news came out that Brett’s rehab was ahead of schedule I had two thoughts. I was thinking Brett is really anxious to help his team and he’s also working hard to get back since he’s a free agent after the season. By his behavior he’s let down his team and himself. Brett was a long shot to be re-signed by the Phillies in the offseason. The 1-4 positions are solid for the Phillies next year and he’ll be looking for big $$’s for a number 5 starter. They have Moyer signed for another season and they have prospects in the minors who could also fill in. In the heat of the pennant race, on a day when our closer blew his 8th save, Brett was 4 hours away hours before his first rehab start, injured his eye and then lied to the Phillies about how it happened. With this incident Brett has gone from being a long shot to having no shot in my opionion.

Amanda may not have made it up, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t made up by someone else. Also, the Bucks County Courier Times has inserted the Manuel quote in a confusing context to suit their own purpose in the article. Her excuse doesn’t justify the claims being made at all. This story is someone else’s garbage, and as such needs to be redacted.
Also, get rid of those damn PETA ads, you assholes. I’m a Philadelphia fan and I like my cheesesteaks, my scrapple, and my Hatfield hot dogs; I don’t care if the cow and the porker that they were carved from lived fulfilling lives in grassy meadows or not.

I guess we could all argue about what really happened until the cows come on home. No pun intended. I am not going to question Amanda’s journalism skills or her sources. What I will question is Myer’s judgement. When you get charged with hitting your spouse; you become a target for years afterwards. Doesn’t matter if the charges were dropped or not. If the public feels you’re guilty based on his/her interpretation of the facts presented;then you are guilty. I think he’s 100% guilty. Maybe Myers was attacked due to his history of beating on women. Maybe not. But to even suggest for one moment that this guy wasn’t sucker punched by another grown man is well beyond naive. If he was attacked. Chalk it up to karma and move on. If he picked a fight or failed to leave the scene of a potential one that didn’t involved him trying to protect his family then that’s on him. Why not just say someone attacked you and that’s it. Or say I got beat up in a fight that was my doing and my manhood was hurt. What is crystal clear is that Brett’s marketability has dropped tremendously as a result of this. But it’s not about the money. Brett I hate what you did to your wife. But I am proud of the fact that the Phillies and Phillies fans(sound similar Vick bashers) gave you a second chance and you ran with it. Just go and get your bleep together and get ready to help us for another October run.

There’s no need to crucify Amanda over something that the Bucks County Courier Times made up and is merely attributing to “team sources.”
This website has been 99-100% accurate as long as I’ve been reading it.
On the flip side, we can crucify the reporter who seems to have gone with unattributed information to justify her agenda….

YOUSE GUYS are a little tough on Amanda… she did give the link that she got her idea from
Amanda.. you shouldn’t have said “BRETT MYERS LIED AGAIN.” …. when there are different stories, and the one that really counts.. the Police Report, said he was only involved in a verbal altercation
The story I heard was “According to Team Sources” he was punched in the face… but why wouldn’t that be in a Police Report??
I actually emailed PhilliesNation on Sunday with this story…thought you guys would have jumped on it sooner..
Great pitching matchup tonight.. Go Fightins!

Should instead say “Internet rumors, despite statements of witnesses and a police report to the contrary, contradict Brett Myers story. Because internet rumors are exponentially more reliable then eye witness accounts and police reports, it is completely rational to state that Brett Myers lied.”
