The Houston Astros always seem to torture the Phillies in September, but don’t jump off the bandwagon yet! The beauty of baseball is that there is always a tomorrow. After a painful loss on Monday, the Phillies will try to rebound.
Last night, the Phillies struggled against Yorman Bazardo. Once again, they’ll be seeing a new face. Wilton Lopez is making his first major league start. In 10.2 innings in relief, the rookie has struggled mightily. He has allowed 20 hits and his ERA is over eight. Over the course of the year, the Phillies’ bats have been silent against young pitchers that they’ve never faced before, even if they own high ERA’s.
J.A Happ will try to help his case for the 2009 Rookie of the Year Award. The left-hander is seeking his twelfth win of the year. Opponents have batted .236 against him this season. Happ has been the stopper. He is a perfect 7-0 after Phillies losses.
Charlie Manuel did most of the talking during a closed-door meeting this afternoon. Hopefully that will pump up the team and get them back on the right track. Manuel later said to the media: “Ever since I’ve been in baseball, I’ve been a fighter and I’ve come to whip your [butt] every day.” So let’s whip some Astro-butt tonight.
Tonight’s lineup: Rollins (SS), Victorino (CF), Utley (2B), Howard (1B), Ibanez (LF), Werth (RF), Feliz (3B), Bako (C) and Happ (P).
Your Gameday Beer – Storm King Stout
There’s a storm a brewin’ and only the Phillies will decide which way it blows. We’re staying local tonight with a full and flavorful stout from Victory Brewing Co. Dark and rich with roasted malts that do not overpower its Pacific Northwest hops, this beer is a lip smacker.a Storm King is best paired with the sweet taste of victory. – By Brian

I’m still driving the wagon but instead of a straight and narrow path to the finish it’s more like a stop and start with a lot of weaving…could be the alcohol, could be the Phillies play, could be the alcohol because of the Phillies play. Either way, I’m still driving the bus. Whose still on board with me?

I am over the flu.
Now the phils can make me sick all by themselves.
This is a huge game.
Enough already lets see that you care. You have played crappy enough to make this game matter. I dont like how the phils are going into the playoffs but I am a believer.
I will monitor the twins tigers game since everyone else here will be monitoring the Braves
On a positive note
Shut out inning by Lidge in the 9th last night! He is back!

Question Phillies Nation: Kevin Kolb hunts wild pigs with a knife and his dog? Is that cruelty to bacon?

HK- It is cruel to call a dog Bacon and the least Kolb can do with all of the money is hire someone to cook his dogs dinner instead of making him knaw on a raw pig carcus…

Lopez is dealing
never seen a team so oor against skell pitchers. You could never explain to me how every time a guy shows up with a 8.44 era he is going to get them out so easily.

I am sorry, I know that there was an open base and all and walking Towels certainly increases your chances of getting an out as there are more places to get an out. But why not pitch to a 108 hitter and let the pitcher lead off the next inning?

ed after watching happ throw to 1st after an obvious easy throw to third i see a little tightness in this team, at least in happ, and it is just a matter of confidence and i guess they just figured they would go after the pitcher

wheeler: milt is this the time of year where you want to be in this kind of situation?
Thompson: Oh no chris we as players would rather just be 20 games out and not have to worry about any pressure or playoff implications

Teams that win the series have a swagger. The phillies had it big time last year and its so far from being here this year its sad.
The yankees have the swagger now but I guarentee you they lose it in round 1 or 2. So you can possibly gain or lose it in a short time period.
The cardinlas have it big time and I feel the winner of the braves/rockies battle will have it.
I am hoping we get it back in a weeks time.

I was hoping the Phils would’ve cashed in on EDR’s prediction as well. Utley’s got a more ab’s left yet though.. Phils LH need to stop trying to pull this guy. Jimmy went semi-opp field and look at what happened..
