Houston Astros (73-83) at Philadelphia Phillies (90-66)
Wilton Lopez, RHP (0-0, 8.44 ERA) vs. J.A Happ, LHP (11-4, 2.79 ERA)

The Houston Astros always seem to torture the Phillies in September, but don’t jump off the bandwagon yet! The beauty of baseball is that there is always a tomorrow. After a painful loss on Monday, the Phillies will try to rebound.
Last night, the Phillies struggled against Yorman Bazardo. Once again, they’ll be seeing a new face. Wilton Lopez is making his first major league start. In 10.2 innings in relief, the rookie has struggled mightily. He has allowed 20 hits and his ERA is over eight. Over the course of the year, the Phillies’ bats have been silent against young pitchers that they’ve never faced before, even if they own high ERA’s.
J.A Happ will try to help his case for the 2009 Rookie of the Year Award. The left-hander is seeking his twelfth win of the year. Opponents have batted .236 against him this season. Happ has been the stopper. He is a perfect 7-0 after Phillies losses.
Charlie Manuel did most of the talking during a closed-door meeting this afternoon. Hopefully that will pump up the team and get them back on the right track. Manuel later said to the media: “Ever since I’ve been in baseball, I’ve been a fighter and I’ve come to whip your [butt] every day.” So let’s whip some Astro-butt tonight.
Tonight’s lineup: Rollins (SS), Victorino (CF), Utley (2B), Howard (1B), Ibanez (LF), Werth (RF), Feliz (3B), Bako (C) and Happ (P).
Your Gameday Beer – Storm King Stout
There’s a storm a brewin’ and only the Phillies will decide which way it blows. We’re staying local tonight with a full and flavorful stout from Victory Brewing Co. Dark and rich with roasted malts that do not overpower its Pacific Northwest hops, this beer is a lip smacker.a Storm King is best paired with the sweet taste of victory. – By Brian

I just realized I haven’t heard much McCarthy or Wheels bashing lately. That shows you the Phils have been playing poorly.

Yes it rivals the phillies bull pens reputation.

I’m the Jamie imposter. I wasn’t trying to be negative. My first thought when I saw that was: “Jamie knows he is on the bubble for the playoff roster and recognizes he’d be the 4th lefty out of the pen. He knows Charlie is a players manager and would likely put him on the roster even at the cost of someone who might be able to contribute more. He might be embelishing the injury to help make Charlie’s decision easier.” It was meant as a compliment to Jamie. I love the guy and was cheering like crazy when he went out last year after Game 5 and dug the rubber out of the ground. Shame on you.

I swear to God, if Charlie brings in Lidge, even with a 3 run lead I am going to blow my cool.
Lidge threw one decent inning in the last month, that does not mean that Lidge is all better now.

Getting down to crunch time here….great job, Madson. Fish still ahead 5-4 in the bottom of the 7th, Braves have 2 out and no one on.

what i mean is, jamie was pissed when he got demoted. he’s such a competitor and he always wants to battle. doubt if he was embellishing an injury to keep himself off the playoff roster to make charlie’s job easier, if anything he wants to prove for the 30th time that he’s not done

I never said he wasn’t playing well. In fact, I am not even saying that’s what he did, but Jamie is a stand up guy and wouldn’t suprise me if that is what he did. Essentially putting the team above him. Shame on you.
The problem with the online community is people skim what is posted and reply with knee-jerk reactions instead of thinking about the point the other person is trying to make. Shame on you again.

Is Charlie for real? Seriously? Can he just not accept that Lidge does not have it this year? I would love to have been a fly on the wall during the team meeting.
“You guys are playing tight. You gotta go to the mountain, it doesn’t come to you. Unless you’re Brad Lidge. And then I bring the mountain to you.”
Give me a break Charlie. Madson threw 9 pitches. He is good to go back out.
If Lidge goes out there I take him out the second someone gets on base.

thinking that jamie is a stand up guy for faking an injury is kind of weird but ok.
also suggesting that he did it to make charlie’s playoff roster decisions easier is kind of weird too but ok

Insurance runs would be nice. Oh wait…phils forgot how to get those. They get all the runs in one inning and then put the bats to bed.

I’m a Phils fan, but I have little faith that this time will go anywhere in the playoffs. I really hope I am wrong.

For the record, I like Moyer, and I think he pitches well, but only when he gets an ump who isn’t squeezing the zone. Unless Eyre and Romero (and maybe Myers and Park) all are not good for NLDS, he doesn’t get a spot. His soft stuff may trip people up in the lazy, hot summer days, but his stuff isn’t fooling anyone in the playoffs. Look at his lines from last year. And please don’t give me the “look at Game 3″ crap. That game started after 10pm EST and he got an ump with a wide zone that night. Half his strikes were balls any other night. Not knocking him, but he doesn’t get a spot if I am the manager, but I certainly appreciate the effort he has given.
