San Francisco Giants (72-60) at Philadelphia Phillies (76-53)
Brad Penny (7-8, 5.61) vs. J.A Happ (10-3, 2.63 ERA)
Time: 7:05 p.m at Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Sunny, 75
TV: Comcast Sportsnet
Twitter: Phillies Nation
The Giants newest acquisition, Brad Penny, will be making his first start since August 21. In his last start with the Red Sox, Penny was roughed up by the Yankees for eight runs in four innings. Bruce Bochy, the Giants manager, said he would be satisfied with five innings from the righty.
In 20 games against the Phillies, Penny is 8-4 with a 3.72 ERA and 1.18 WHIP. Most of that success came with the Marlins before he was plagued with injuries. The Phillies only scored one run last night. It was enough for the win, but the Phillies need to score more runs than that. The offense has a perfect opportunity to explode against a struggling Penny.
Cole Hamels threw a complete game shutout last night. J.A Happ has a couple of those on his resume. He would like to become the first Phillies rookie to win 11 games since 1980. Happ has never faced the Giants in his career, but if he continues his consistency he should be able to handle the Giants weak lineup.
Your Gameday Beer – Fuller’s London Porter
Feel that chill in the air? Besides fall baseball it means that we need a warm cozy beer for tonight – a porter. This variety from Fuller’s has serious sweetness to complement its roasted coffee flavor. It’s a good sample to try if you’re not big into porters (you can probably find it on tap at a local Elephant & Castle). Have it for dessert with some chocolate ice cream. – By Brian

Happ vs Penny is definitely a winnable game for the Phils. Tomorrow night Pedro goes against the Freak Tim Lincecum. Poor Pedro has had to deal with rain, and now as a number 5 starter has to face another team’s #1. I hope we win tonight’s game because tomorrow will be very difficult.

Maybe Penny will be good back in the NL.
When I lost qualls in fantasy I was between Garland and Penny as to who to pick up. I went with Garland. But Penny still has good stuff.

Jimmy Rollins has one alk in his last 11 games. I could go up to bat with my beer belly and a drumstick as a bat and get more walks.

Not for nothing but when is Ibanez going to get some “time off” so he can get his stuff together?

Okay I know what Charlie would say but why on earth in Ibanez still in there. He is hitting .193 with 1 hr, 4 RBI’s in Aug. That is horrible, if he is hurt get him healthy I would rather him play post season than just suck it up now

I dont know if you heard TMac and Wheels making a case for Happ to win the ROY, but I’m watching the Marlins-Braves game and they were talking about the ROY race too – named 5 contenders….none of them were Happ.

turn off braves marlins! Both sets of announcers for both teams hate the Phils. The Braves announcers being slightly worse.
I had a very good idea that Penny would be good tonght. Call me psychic

looks like this is gonna be another tim redding type thing with penny…cholly needs to give ibanez more then just a day here and there off all the guys doing anymore is hurting the team.

As far as pitchers for ROY it goes Happ 1, R. Wells 2, Hanson 3 with Happ having a big lead IMO.

of course the braves marlins broadcaster don’t want happ to win ROY because the phils are their rival and the braves guys of course are pulling for tommy hanson.

Wow better get some water cause these Phillies bats are just scorching…
Is anyone else wet from drooling over the fact the Phils have 4 starting pitchers throwing grade A pitching right now?

That’s what Happ does, keep the damage to a minimum. I really think he’s special!

Well this isn’t good. Happ is up to 85 pitches and just finished the 5th.

man these phils bats need to wake up already were way better then this and were getting shut down by a guy with an ERA near 6…i still find it hard to believe this team is one of the highest scoring offenses when their shut down by garbage like this.

I get the package on Direct TV I recomend it highly to anyone who doesnt live in the philly area. Its not too expensive either. Like 100 bucks less than NFL and 10 times the games.
Raoul is just snake but right now. he hit that ball well and had a good at bat. Just think if he had started this way he would have gone the way of Geoff Jenkins?

This frigging team. Brad Penny is absolute trash and we are making him look Cliff Lee.

Prnny is not trash outside the AL east
He will get the same bump smoltz got leaving the red sox
The same bump javier vazquez has gotten since leaving the yankees.
AL is a wasteland of pitchers. Remember that.
I suspect Kazmir will improve. Let him get to the NL oe NL west and he will be an all star.
