San Francisco Giants (73-60) at Philadelphia Phillies (76-54)

Tim Lincecum (13-4, 2.33) vs. Pedro Martinez (2-0, 4.50 ERA)

Time: 7:05 p.m at Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Sunny, 74
TV: Comcast Sportsnet, MLB Network
Twitter: Phillies Nation

Pedro Martinez will be glad to hear that there is no rain in tonight’s forecast. However, with Tim Lincecum on the mound, a long rain delay doesn’t sound like a bad idea.

The Phillies bats need to wake up for the rubber match of the series.  They’ve scored only one run during the entire series, and 11 in the last six games.  It will not be easy to manufacture runs off, arguably, the best pitcher in the National League. Like Brad Penny last night, Lincecum pitched eight scoreless innings against the Phillies this season.

Ryan Howard has two home runs in his career against Lincecum.  Randy Winn is 6-for-9 with 4 RBI against Pedro since 2004.

In case you have not seen David Wright’s ridiculous looking helmet that will be mandatory for all minor leaguers next season, don’t be surprised to see Shane Victorino sporting a large, “Great Gazoo” type helmet.  Todd Zolecki reports Victorino will be trying out the new helmet tonight.  As usual, Shane will bat second in the lineup.  Victorino is batting .267 with a home run in 15 at-bats against Lincecum.

Green Flash Le FreakYour Gameday Beer – Green Flash Le Freak
There is no coincidence in tonight’s selection, but it’s a great beer nonetheless. You might mistake Le Freak for a Tripel by the way it looks and its 9.2% alcohol content; however, it tastes and smells like an American IPA – it’s actually considered a hybrid of the two. Eat it with your favorite peaches dish, it will bring out the Belgian flavors of the beer. – By Brian

well when a 38 year old pitcher whose been out of the bigs for a year at least makes contact, its gotta suck for Ibanez who has 2 K’s to keep him company in the dug out.

almost, risky but I liked it

Anyone notice that Pedro is shaking his head at J-Roll as to whether he wants to attempt a pick off or not? It’s like he is trying to distract the runner. I have never seen that before.

Normally I would say no but Madson has been shaky as hell. Oh well. Gotta get his stuff together eventually.

Ibanez automatic K these days, very sad.

So are the fans going to throw their hats on the field to signify Ibanez’s hat trick?

I’d say it depends on the batting. Pedro shouldn’t come to bat, but if he doesn’t, let him take the 8th and bat for him in the 9th.

    what happended to feliz hitting?

You have to go with Madson and Lidge now…

Getting 7 innings out of Pedro (especially when his last start was 2 IP) is the max you can get from him.

Ah, I see Cholly has taken my advice. :D

And now they just pinch-hit for him..so yea

Well done, Pedro, well done. I can now tell my unborn kids I saw an almost-vintage Pedro Martinez start in a Phillies uniform when he is inducted into the hall of fame.

P.S.: Wheels saying “he’s due” is possibly the biggest jinx in baseball.

The way Stairs has been hitting, you might as well bat Pedro.

crap! I wanted pedro, not madson…i wanted chooch to make the 3rd out so Pedro could pitch the 8th

it will be another game like the cole hamels Game that lidge blew

gtrat effort by the starter – nothing to show for it..

    3-1 for Stairs… !!

Yeah, Pedro can strike out just as well as Stairs.

    Well, that was pointless.

    Poor Stairs…

Okay. Bridge to Lidge now. Who’s ready? I am.

*wonders when Stairs will get a hit*

    K for stairs AGAIN!

Like I said…the biggest jinx in baseball. Stairs is an automatic K at 3-2 on that breaking ball away. Anyone else notice that?

the ball was in the ph********* dirt…

Well Stairs thank you very much for one big hit. I hope we do not bring him back next year.

    Come on MAD DOG!!!

This feels like a post-season game to me. I’m counting down the outs. (Ha – and as I typed that McCarthy just said that the Phils need to get 5 outs.)
