Gameday 2009, Posts
New York Mets (62-79) at Philadelphia Phillies (80-59)
Mike Pelfrey (10-10, 4.83 ERA) vs. Jamie Moyer (12-9, 4.98 ERA)
Time: 4:05 p.m at Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Cloudy, 68
TV: FOX
With tomorrow’s double header and J.A Happ’s oblique injury, Jamie Moyer will make his 23rd start of the year. On Monday, the crafty veteran filled in for Happ nicely, despite the short notice. Since his bullpen demotion, Moyer is 2-0 with a 1.41 ERA. However, Moyer is 1-1 with a 7.08 ERA in 20 innings against the Mets this season. Mets hitters have batted .342 against the lefty.
Moyer will be opposed by Mike Pelfrey. Pelfrey is 3-0 with a 3.70 ERA in four starts against the Phillies this season. Ryan Howard is batting .400 with a home run in his career against Pelfrey. Chase Utley has a .300 average and three homers off Pelfrey.
The Mets’ elimination number is four. The Phillies can officially eliminate the Mets from the division this weekend.
Your Gameday Beer- Drake’s Barrel Aged Olde Ale
Like a fine wine and Jamie Moyer, certain beers get better with age. This offering from Drakes is no exception, though it needs only 3 or 4 years in a brandy barrel to reach full maturation. In this amber-colored beer hops take a backseat to the woody apple, cherry taste. It is bottled in 6 oz. ponies but that’s really all you need when the beer weighs in at 10.24% ABV. Have it along side a light snack of apple slices and gouda. – By Brian

THe Phillies absolutely cannot hit K-Rod. I hate the guy, but the Phillies will go 1-2-3. They suck against him.

Moyer pitched a good game after the first inning. 7 innings, 5 runs doesn’t impress me.

This team needs to have 3+ run leads going into the 9th if they are going to do anything in the playoffs.

Its really strange that we are still in the first place given how our bullpen has sucked, and the offense slept before they got to this series.

Whats that 6 blown out of a dozen attempts? He just does not have the mental attitude. Right now, we do not have a closer period.

2nd time this yr madson has given up a 2 run HR to lose the game with 2 outs in the 9th inning. He did it vs the Orioles this summer. When was the last 9th inning where a phils closer had a 1-2-3 inning? This is ridiculous

Also, no more Madson closing please. Walker? He can’t be worse than what we have now, and it’s not like we lose a vital piece of our bullpen if he goes off the tracks.

Now the bats are heating up, but the wheels are coming off the pitching…
The Marlins are licking their chops.

Big surprise. K-Rod whiffs Ibanez. I can’t watch this. They suck against this guy. This game’s over.

Dave – Walker coverted 23 of 28 for an NL team and 10 of 12 for an AL team. The was done in place of closers who failed. Why not. Madson has converted 50% of his career save opportuinities. You tell me. Beside he has had the best stuff coning out of the pen of late

Can we give the bullpen a collective Jeltz? I mean, Madson sucked, but so did Myers and Park didn’t pitch all that crisply. Plus, Lidge deserves a share because if he didn’t stink this year, then Madson never tries to save the damn game.

Pathetic. Face it, there is a legitimate chance that this team will not even make the playoffs. Our bullpen is in absolute shambles. We’ve just gone 3-7 against 3 terrible teams, and the Marlins are creeping up on us. I have ZERO confidence that the Phils will take care of the fish the last week of the season. None. No lead is big enough anymore, even against the bottom feeders of the Major Leagues. Did I mention the word pathetic? Unbelievable.

I can’t remember the last time the bullpen gave up this many runs. When you score 9 you should win the game.

Charlie needs to stop playing the we will see how I feel who should close. cause Madson and Myers both blew this game so the options aren’t much better than Lidge.
Rolling the dice with this team in the Ninth is not fair and not working. They need to get it together. Need to look in all directions and name someone and go with him.

The Phillies look like the Mets in 07. We gave up 5 runs in the last two inning. We have some BIG problems. HUGE! This last months has been brutal.
